My cb450 Special

Introducing the 'Green Hornet', my '72 cb450 resto-mod project. Currently up and running, and enjoying the Northern California sunshine. I bought it last year as a poor-running, one-family bike that just needed a few upgrades and modifications, as it was too nice to hack up completely. Parts from Mikuni, Omars, Charlie's, and Vintage Brake. Blood, sweat, and tears from me and my buds.

Boy but I do like that Omar 2-1 pipe. Nice paint, too.

Thank you gents, I wanted to go with a mostly stock look on this project as the OE tank and sidecovers were so nice. Just a lot of little styling cue changes that pulled it together. I gotta give a shout for the Charlie's Place electronic ignition kit, a bit pricey but very well done, improved the bike considerably.

You messed my whole friggin day up. I know at a quick glance it's fairly stock looking, then I look at certain areas and see you paid quite a bit of attention to detail, and I like very much you left the side covers, and the way you cut the fenders and all the little bits. I can't get this thing out of my head...

This summer I've just been racking up the miles on the cb, running great and a ton of fun. What headlight upgrades have folks done on the cb's over stock? Some are just using a new sealed 7", some cutting in a Hella h4 bulb. Any input?
And where are the all the vintage bikes hanging out in the SF Bay area these days? Used to be a few meets, seems a bit slow this summer...

I just cut in a new H4 bulb - five minutes work vs. fifty bucks for a new bucket was an easy choice to make. I am running a repop 5" Bates lamp on my XV right now and was surprised to discover that it casts a better light than the CB's ever did.

I'm in Half Moon Bay, I ride up to Alice's almost every week, week days usually.

I like the idea of cutting a H4 bulb in, did you cut thru the glass back of an old sealed beam?

The seat is custom made by Dan Gallagher at Gallagher Cycles. He can be reached thru www.hondatwins.net as dgallagher.

That's the trick. Slow and careful :D

Had a great ride on the Green Hornet up to Alice's restaurant in the Santa Cruz mountains yesterday. As usual, mostly modern bikes - BMWs, Ducatis, Japanese sport bikes, but a couple of cool, old bikes. One RD400 and a pair of Yamaha SRX600s. That bike still gets to me, too bad Americans just weren't ready for it...
