my cl125, HELP!

Coast to Coast
ok so im finally getting around to it. i kreemed, my tank. i got a new petcock (though i dont really trust it cause the gasket comes out alot and its not a perfect flush fit to the tank (if i move it some gas will leak) but thats not the main problem.

i got a new battery, charged it up and threw it in. i put a shot of either into the carb. fired right up. ok cool!

some more shots of either until i can keep revving it and it stays alive, im guessing that gas IS getting to the engine, because it cant run a minute or more continuously revving off of just one shot of either, right?

BUT heres the catch...

as soon as i try and let it idle, it dies right away, then wont kick until i put another shot of either in. but after i do, i can keep it alive for however long i like.

i can keep it in neutral and rev it all day, back it up, kick it into first, ride it, up to second, third, it rides great.

but as soon as i let go of the throttle, dead.

whats the deal?

thanks in advance guys!!!!!

either = ether?
as for the petcock, mine's a bit same same - feels loose. until you tighten it RIGHT up, then it won't move or leak. mine's a cb125 but might be similar.
