DTT BOTM WINNER
hey guys!

last week i wanted to buy an rd 350 from some guy nearby, the bike was sold before i even got to it.
so i found this rd 250 1977.
the seller tells that it has 17000km on its tach,it had an accident but that it runs fine,he sells it for 600 euros :).
i always dreamt of building a 2 stroker cafe racer.
but i fear that the 250 will be to weak for me....thats why i was always looking for the 350.
do you guys have any experiences comparing these two rides?
i dont wanna spend money on some slow machine, altough the design of this machine is in my view better than the 350.

The 250 is plenty quick and powerful for around town and the backroads. Plus, its only a top end swap away from being a 350. Oh... Also... If you ever come across one of those tanks (like on the bike in the pictures) I'd be interested in buying it.

oh very interesting...im rlly interested in buying it now.

how much approx. will the top end swap cost?which mods need to be taken if i go that way?

another question:

i heard that the carbs of 2 strokes are the "centerpiece" of these monsters.i recently swapped my kz 400 carb filters to single pods, the get that cafe look.
will this work with these carbs too,cuz i see very rarely 2 strokes with single pods.

The carbs will need to be functioning correctly, yes. You'll be able to run aftermarket filters as long as you use top quality items (K&N or UNI come to mind).

As far as cost... A couple hundred dollars (USD) would get you a good top end here in the US. You'll need jugs, pistons, rings, heads, gaskets, etc...

The 250 will surprise you, it makes my gt380 seem like a turd. Slap some chambers on her and gather parts for your 350 swap. Headstuds will also be a must.

I bought a 175 two stroke for my wife that is faster, lighter, easier to work on and more fun than my CB450 ever was.

We never got that 250 motor in the states but i would be suprised if 350 jugs wouldnt fit

That's a damn good looking bike.
Is that a rd400 tank or is that a smaller factory 250 version?
That's exactly what I'm looking for for my build

Hands off my tank fuck-hole. :)

Brad, from some quick interweb searching... The 350 top end should fit.

the owner just called me....i live 2hours away from him and couldnt see the bike till tomorrow...he sold the bike for 450 euros.FML my life is over.

i want an effin rd.

FOUND ANOTHER ONE:

this one is in rlly good condition, the paint is awful,i mean what did they think back then when designed that turd :)?
its 1979 build.he wants 800 euros.this time ill be fast enough :).

what do you guys think?

That red and white 250 is awesome, I would leave the tank and paint stock. I would go for the RD400 though.

I will be happy to trade you tanks.
I will even paint mine the color of your choice.

love the scheme too but white red is not my favorite combo :)

why should i go for the the 400?

I didn't say you should but I would just cause it's the same bike with a bit more balls.
