My first restoration - CB200

To go with my Royal Air Force Police Honda ST1100 (mainly for showing) and my BMW R1150RT (for everyday transport when her-in-doors has the car), I bit the bullet and bought a CB200 of 1976 vintage that had sat in a (not too dry) shed since 1985 for my very first real restoration project - eBay has a lot to answer for!!

Having got it home and had a good look at it, everything seems to be there, albeit in a bit of a state with rust in varying degrees on most bits. Seller said engine was seized-up so I'll drop some diesel fuel into the cylinders through the spark plug holes and forget it for a couple of weeks before I look inside.

In the research phase at the moment - frame grit-blasters and powder coaters, vapour blasters for the engine and other alloy bits, etc., re-chromers for the shiny bits, magazine articles, Haynes manual, et al.

So, to call on the accumulated wisdom of this learned group, who's previously (or currently) done what to their CB200 to restore it to its previous splendour or even given it a new life as a flat-tracker, cafe-racer, x-country/scrambler or what have you? What pitfalls might I encounter, where can I get those elusive bits & pieces from?

I look forward in anticipation to your inputs :p

The 200 is a pretty simple machine. If youre doing a true resto, than there are multitudes of NOS bits out there. Buy a Honda shop manual, and make her pretty.

If you want to customize the bike, you also have tons of options as these bikes are popular in the vintage racing scene.

Use the search function here and look up some of the stellar cb175/200 builds. Plenty of ideas and whanot floating around.

Also... get a thread started in the restorations section. I love the CB200 and I want to steal your ideas if I ever get around to restoring one. ;D
