hey people...
here's my newest Craigslist midnight snatch...beat out six other buyers by minutes...
a 1980 CB750 Super Sport with 25,000+
$500...carbs run like shit...have to sort those out...any suggestions?

Nice looking bike and a corbin seat to boot ! pull them off and clean them should be a good place to start ....
 
Disassemble the carbs, soak them for a day and while you have them off check the intake boots for cracks. Check for fat blue spark and you should be rollin!

What are your plans? Restoration? Cafe?
 
one of my fav CB's personally i would do a early 70's style racer out of it. this bike is a great runner and is a blast to ride! just shooting the passanger mount/muffler support black will really change the look of that bike. fork oil change and ride it a bit... the carbs on these are super easy to clean and carb kits can be found on ebay pretty cheap, they are picky about 2 things.. the float setting and sync... so be sure you dial those in after you clean them up
 
damn...that's a score for sure javspoOlin... I also have 2...one will be a street tracker and this one will be restored to original except for the air boxes and carbs...

hey JRK5892...I didn't see any float adjustability on my carb rack...they're plastic floats and the needles attach directly to them...I'd really love to get this sorted out...bike runs...just won't idle and doesn't seem to have much power...I have seals coming and a stage 1-3 Dyno-Jet kit coming...any tips would be greatly appreciated...
 
Have you adjusted the valves? Do that first or your compression will blow ass. Also, I soaked mine in Pine-Sol, not sure if that's the best route or not though. And watch out for the vacuum cut-off diaphragms.
 
thanks...you won't believe this...but I just realized I didn't tighted up the jets after I cleaned them..found all jet laying in the float bowls...and it still ran...
forty years as a car mechanic dont mean shit with bikes...

will order those from Honda...
although...the other day I ordered stuff from honda and got KL needles...they jacked up the price on me...but I really like those guys so I don't mind paying a little extra...

Easier said than done Pal. First you need to measure their clearance then pull the existing shim And measure it. Determine the change needed than calculate the replacement shim. Install the new shim and recheck the lash to verify you got it right. Sometimes the shim you removed from one, is the size you need for another.
On the home computer I have a spreadsheet(.xls) that helps with the process. I'll post it or a link to where I got it from when I get back.
 
My local guys had a kit to loan out with a wide assortment. I forget that not everyone is so lucky :p
 
My local Honda dealer had a kit, would let you "swap" shims for a dollar each. 8)
