Just posting this to give someone ideas. It's a pretty simple system and it's cheap so it's not hard to do. I know I was really worried about mounting mine because I'm no fab master and spent forever looking at different brackets, but in the end I didn't need any of that. Used Dime City's rearsets and linkage kit. Just put them where the passenger pegs go. This is kinda far back for a lot of people but my tank is really long and I'm 6'. My feet go right under my nuts which is ideal.
Brake Side - Just cut the stock brake pedal off right after the point where the brake light actuator mounts. Welded a small bracket to the back to attach the arm.
Shift Side - Cut shifter off leaving only a few inches. Rounded it off and drilled a hole.
This is my first build and I'm really happy with how the rearsets turned out. Still have a lot to do on the rest of the bike though..
good job on the linkage but unless you don't go around corners they are way too low
the linkage angle at the shifter ends should be as close to 90 degrees as possible,
Your bike is looking good but like xb33bsa said your pegs are to low. How do I know? I initially made the same mistake on the KZ I am working on. The location was convenient and comfortable but it pointed my toes down to far to be safe. Imagine your toe hitting the pavement with the arch of your foot on the peg.
Anyhow it gave me a starting point to check the function of the controls and it was not a big deal to move them. I'm far from an expert on this stuff but it looks like you need to move them up and forward so your knees are more in knee dents on your tank.
yep
and having a 2-3" of firm padding in the seat will help you get up and forward on the bike a bit more .....loosen those straight arms
when riding in a relaxed position you need to have more bend in the elbows/shoulders
+1 and +1 I was looking at at doing the same thing but realized that if I leaned into a corner I would drag a toe or the footpegs. I am even bigger than you at 6'2" and 240 lbs with size 12 boots so me dragging my shit is pretty likely. I haven't mounted mine yet but just sitting on the frame and guessing riding position I figured I only needed to bring them up from the passenger foot peg position like 2" to avoid dragging.
Other than that I dig your bike and it looks like a lot of fun
They're pretty low, but I've ridden it around some tight corners and it hasn't been a problem. But before I powedercoat the frame I'll probably raise them and bring them forward. And yea when I get a seat that will also raise me up to make it more comfortable. Thanks for the input
i love the tank and seat ! yeah once you get some good shocks, tires and used to the bike you are deff gonna need them at least a cuple inches higher
what about your muffler doesn't it run right back there as well ?
