My (Recovered) Stolen CB350

BIKE RECOVERED!!!

Original story---

So friday night I'm crusing down Nagle road in Chicago and I almost hit a dog that jumped out in the street, and a car driving in an opposite lane almost hits the dog and almost hits me after. So out of concern, I pull over, park my bike and grab the dog. A lady walking her dog offers to take it to her house and hold on to it until animal control comes. One city block and 7 mins later, I come back to where I parked my bike and its gone. 7 mins is all it took, in a perfectly normal neighborhood. I had my key with me but the steering wasnt locked. I'm guessing someone witnessed all this and saw an opportunity and either pulled it into their garage, or a van/truck.

Re: My Stolen CB350

You have my sympathies. In watching stolen hotrod threads, the best results I've seen has been from posting on every like minded forum and hoping that a member sees it some where.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Get in touch with the Half Fast Chicago guys. They have a website. Ask them to keep an eye out. Also call every MC salvage yard in the area and tell them about the bike. Keep calling the police until someone actually helps you, its their effin job but occasionally they arent so keen on doing it. Go back to the street it was stolen from and knock on every door with a pic of the bike. Someone must have seen something. I know theres some other bike clubs in your area. Contact them, explain the situation and ask for help. Make sure you explain the situation to your insurance company as well. Theyll put pressure on the local PD. Post flyers, and an ad on CL. Keep an eye on CL for cb350 parts, as well as EBay. If you see something you KNOW is from your bike call the cops immediatly. Good luck man. Hope ya find her.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Keep an eye out on craigslist for bike parts. Stolen vehicles are rarely kept intact and are almost always parted out.

Re: My Stolen CB350

That sucks!!! sorry to hear of your misfortune. i guess it just goes to validate the ol saying: "no good deed goes un-punished" I hate feeling like i have to babysit my bike wherever i go, just wish there was a shroud of decency out there and that people would realize they are stealing someone's heart and soul when they do shit like this. Hopefully you find your bike and Karma plays its role in ensuing rightful revenge on the ass-clown that stole your wheels.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Sorry to hear that man. :-[ I had my Jeep stolen years ago. I hope you get the bike back. stay diligent.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Thieves deserve a special kind of treatment. I've got a bargain mod that will insure not only yourself, but society as a whole.

For this mod you'll need:
1 pint ether
1 dirty rag (dirtier the better)
ballerina's tutu
black ink
rusty needle
the ability to spell "thief"

Approach thief with interest in his stolen wares. Stuff dirty rag soaked of ether in their face. Strip thief, apply ballerina's tutu. Dip rusty needle into ink and begin poking "thief" into forehead (tattooing or artistic experience not required). Load the pretty tattooed ballerina into car. Dispose of ballerina in the most inconvenient place possible (ie. bad part of town, desert, water-tower.) Congratulations, mod complete!

Re: My Stolen CB350

Thanks for the support everyone, and the good suggestions. I've made a flyer and have been passing them out to bike shops in the city. I was at ACE yesterday. However, I'm a little worried about putting them around the neighborhood it was stolen in. Maybe someone can knock some sense into me on this issue, but I feel like it is still in that neighborhood and if the thief knows I'm activley searching, they may just move it out of state- if not already. Or maybe it was some punk kid whos keeping it in his parents garage and a random flyer in this persons mailbox would alert the scum's parents. Idk.

Ive also been thinking of what to do to disable the bike if I ever see someone riding it. I'm not going to do anything to hurt anyone over a motorcycle (as much as I want to), Id rather disable it. I feel like if I walk up to the bike at an intersection and yank the spark plugs or something, it would give me some time to alert the police (I dont carry a cell). Again, idk.

BTW, I'm offering a $100 reward. I don't know if that's sufficient, but I'm already strapped for cash and this was my only vehicle for getting around.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Put flyers EVERYWHERE. Make the theiving prick(s) know youre looking for it. Also, if it was me and I saw someone riding my stolen bike... They better hope theres someone there to stop me from cracking their head.

Honestly if you do see someone on it, call 911 immediatly, and avoid a confrontation. Dont give the scumbag a reason to take off or even worse, possibly attack you. Follow them, stay on the line with the cops and let them handle it.

Also, keep your keys and your paperwork on you at all times. That way if you run across the bike parked somewhere, you can just get on it and ride it away.

Re: My Stolen CB350

Whoever stole your bike was probably an amateur who just exploited your situation. Pro bike thieves don't bother with old Hondas, there's no profit and they are too distinct and easily spotted. Blitz the area with flyers and someone's going to drop dime for the reward.

That is some seriously good advice!

Re: My Stolen CB350

OP: where on Nagle did this happen? i take this street to work there and back every day. I will stay on the lookout for ya and will let you know if i spot or hear anything.

Re: My Stolen CB350

I hope you find that thief! I live in the Chicago so if it ends up in the city and I'll be sure to let you know. If you still have not found it in a month, make sure you don't give up. Just be sure to come back and remind us that your bike was stolen. Many thieves don't try to sell it immediately, but wait some time until they think the heat is off. Good luck!

Re: My Stolen CB350

There's some good advice here. Thanks guys. I've been busy with getting school going, but I'll put some flyers up by the end of this week. Luckily, even though I thought I was buying liability insurance, the agent scammed me into getting full coverage--and I'm covered! 500 deductable though. Id rather have my bike back, but I guess it could be worse.

boostbaron, it got stolen on Nagle and Raven. Raven is the only intersection with a street light on it between Devon and Northwest Highway. This neighborhood used to be great (mostly middle class union workers), but not anymore. Example: A few months ago some idiot totalled my cousins parked car on Nagle and NWhwy and somehow managed to leave the scene with their vehicle. But I guess that could happen anywhere. Then there's all those punk ass kids from Taft.

Re: My Stolen CB350

About 6-8 months ago I saw some motorcycle tires out at the curb with a free sign. Why is this of interest?
This house is on Nagle, about 3 or 4 houses south of Raven, west side. It might be a place to look.

Good Luck

I got a call from the police sunday morning that they found my bike in one piece, only a few blocks away from where I left it. After picking it up from the impound I notice a couple of things--bike has bits of white paint around it, gas tank has been run out, ignition connector seperated, hardware rusted and loose in a few places.
My guess--Somebody saw me leave the bike and had the opportunity to put it in their yard where they covered it with the nearest available cloth-a paint covered dropcloth from work. After tinkering with it for two weeks (and probably riding it around based on the ignition and absence of gas) they decide its not worth the effort and they drop it off somewhere nearby.
My lesson-ALWAYS lock the steering, and invest in a GPS device.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP--for keeping an eye out, and for the good advice. I finally got this girl back.
Turnturtle--- Man that message really got to me, especially after what recently happened. I wonder if whoever lived in that house had anything to do with it. I was going to spend my sunday peering in windows and looking through fences--I wonder if I'd have found it sooner by doing this earlier.
