n00b with stupid CB350 questions...

Coast to Coast
Hi All! Just got a CB350 K2 that I'm intending to café and I have a buncha questions that hopefully wise people already know the answers for....

1. Would like alloy rims. Does anyone make 18" alloy rims that could be laced up to the ol' ceebee's hubs?
2. The cooling fins are way thinner than I remember. Can I get them media blasted to clean off the oxidation and still have anything left? And if so what media?
3. Can you get a 2:1 exhaust for these things?
4. Can you delete the battery? I understand there are two types of alternator/magneto/generator thingees and you can get away without a battery with one type but not the other.
5. I remember the points being a pita on these things. Can you convert them to electronic ignition?
6. Can you get either tach's or speedo's that don't use driven cables?

Thanks in advance for any answers you may have on these....

Yes to all your questions. Searching will reveal all necessary info to accomplish these.
points are not that big of a deal, keep them clean and set and they will last a while. Electronic is better. Don't delete the battery unless you are going racing. use a smaller one.
Soda blasting will remove the oxidation.
2-1 header and muffler $300 give or take.
Alloy rims bend a break. The steel rims flex enough not to. Don't use alloy rims with spokes unless racing.
There are e-tachs out there, you will have to modify anything to get it to work.

I disagree with this. Alloy rims will improve handling and trim significant weight from your wheels. Bikes such as the XS650 and the new Thuxton use spoke wheels with alloy rims. They also look better than the stock steel rims. Just make sure the spoke holes are angled for drum brakes.

+1 on what the good doctor said.
doesnt vance and hines or MAC make a 2-1 exhaust setup? try Bikebandit or old bike barn

the MAC 2:1 has seperate headers and the transition from 2 to 1 takes place in the muffler section which means you're stuck with the MAC muffler... Omars makes a good lookin' setup, just about what i'm after, but it's for a CB450... could it be 'persuaded' to fit?

well, i would just say break out the 'ol sharpie and welder and make one. wouldnt be that hard to use the stock stuff to sweep the left header to the right or vise-versa.

hehe... let's see, buy a welder... remind myself how to weld cuz i haven't done it since high school... ruin stock headers... twice... nah, i'm a dude that needs to be buying my way out of this problem!

For a scrambler-ish style 2-1 exhaust check out "El Poquito" on www.benjiescaferacer.com.
