Need fork help!

I just picked up a 74 cb550. The PO told me it had 750 forks on it. Fine and dandy, I take it home.

Now, I'm tearing into the thing, rebuilding a LEAKY engine, doing a cafe tail on it, and all that fun jazz. I hit the front end and want to get it back down to the stock 500/550 height. Am I better off finding someone to trade, buy some from someone, or modify the 750 forks to drop them back down the two inches I want?

There are a few other bikes in the garage, and I'm sure I could throw these on another bike eventually. I'm just looking for my best/cheapest solution here.

I put 750 tubes inside 550 sliders on mine.
Used longer 750 shocks as well because 550 is quite wide and grounds out easy

They are the older 35mm shocks on it.

As far as pushing them up in the trees, I want to run clubmans on it and can really only go up 1/4", otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe I'll rip those suckers apart and shorten then up after I'm done with the tail.
