A good friend has asked if Id like to purchase his mx500 two stroke. it has an rd350 front end and a different yamaha gas tank. However the bike appears to be very well taken care of with many spare engine parts (i.e. heads, bottom end, transmission, gaskets) apparently all it needs is some time and new piston rings. I dont know the miles but I was told they were low. Im 20 years old and a friend and I are starting a custom motorcycle shop in fort myers, fl. for 475 dollars is this the great deal I think it is?

I admire you for starting your own shop, I dream of doing the same some day! However imho if you are starting your own shop I would think you would have sufficient knowledge of motorcycles to answer the question you are asking here. We would need to see pics and does the bike have a title (for the street)?

An RD front end will ve significantly shorter than the stock one I believe. If the rear shocks are original, that must be one squirrely ride.

Lets see some pictures.

I agree with JohnU, in that I would take some time to learn the market before jumping into starting a motorcycle business.

It shouldn't take long, and FL has plenty of riders. Either way good luck!

I guess my message came of a bit ignorant butIts not just me I have a business partner as well who has a few gorgeous bike builds under his belt, I am quite competent with 4strokes (of course i learn every day) but I have never done a 2stroke build. however with our shop community, the help of the internet and a will I think it will be great and I have messed around with them a little but as there is not much information at all online about them I was just looking for any useful tips. Thank you for your words of wisdom. I bought the bike, it has 3 engines which are all in pretty good condition considering the age and everything else is great. this bike weighs next to nothing and has almost 50 hp stock. We have a full machine shop and an amazing machinist to boot so I think we will be alright.
We are going to transform it quite drastically so prepare for a new MX/SC500 thread and a new Florida garage!
