Need some tank advice...

And seat, but that's a different thread.

I have a 78 cb750k, looking for a new tank as the one I have is a little too wide / big for the bike, and I dont really like the flap. Any suggestions? I like the 400f tank, but no clue if it is direct fit or if i'd have to mod / if it even looks good (not that my bike is a work of art). Any suggestions are appreciated, and I dont mind welding on the tank if it needs to be done. Also,... while i'm here, any overall suggestions are great. I'm finally 100% done with mechanicals/electricals and whatnot, now it's time to make it look presentable.

My only thought is that you need to pull those lowering links off the rear shocks, unless you're very short and that was done to keep you flat footed. Did you lower the front too?

I see you've got pod filters as well, have you had a chance to start tuning for them? Can be a bit of a pain to get right, but it's certainly doable (with trial and error). If you aren't familiar with plug chops, you need to do some homework.

You may also look into rearsets to go along with the clubman bars, the stock peg position with those bars will likely be pretty uncomfortable.

Yeah, I was actually unaware the rear was "lowered." I didnt do a "build thread," but I'm going to be posting one as soon as I get home (if i can find some of the pictures there will be some, if not, it will be text).

The bike was together and then taken apart and then left to sit for a bit and then put back together, so I'm not entirely sure if I put it all together right lol. We did lower the front a bit to match the rear, but I'm going to look at that when I get home.

I'll PM you a link to when I make the thread. As for the pods.... I got them working pretty well, but figuring this out (and the electrical stuff) was the longest part of the build. After talking to a bunch of people with little to no bike mechanical experience (most of them just ride dirt/sport/harleys) they all just pointed me to the slow jets, which everyone that seemed to "know" about bikes said should not need to be changed or adjusted with the pods and 4 to1. I found a website that said different, but couldn't find a site for press in jets (which mine has). So, I ended up searching for tiny drill bits and found some type of "jobber" bit that i swear has to be smaller than hair... Put the jet in my drill, put the bit in my vice grip, and drilled that hole bigger. I think I used a .45mm? bike started up perfect after that.

More will be written in the bike build thread, and from a total... and I mean TOTAL noob. Outside of replacing nearly every part on a car I have no experience in this... I work in finance and wanted a project lol

Not a bad job on the pilots, I think stock was 41 right? You'll probably find that you have flat spots in the upper throttle range if your mains are still stock, may want to go up a size or two. I think I'm running 125's and they are just a bit rich. The main jets are easy to find at 4into1.com or z1enterprises. The pilots, not so much.

PS, I have the same bike so if you have specific questions feel free to ask.

PPS, I'm a property tax guy, so don't think because you're not in a related industry that you can't do it. Just takes a little extra homework ;D

haha, thanks. i started getting worried that I'd have to buy new carbs for it.

The mains are at 125 I think, I replaced those first based on word from the shop that told me the pilot jets were fine, but that didnt fix the actual problem (low range / idle).

And thanks for the openness, I will be asking you some things for sure. I also am hoping for a lot of feedback on the build thread.

FYI...

You'll be very hard pressed to find a tank that just drops onto that frame. The triple backbone design makes it really difficult.
