So my bike was finished last week. In two weeks Im going to be making a multi-state trip with friends from NYC to South Beach Miami. We are stopping in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Clearwater FL and a few other spots overnight, at friend's etc.

very early this morning, I took the bike on a "make it or break it" speed trip down the Sprain Brook Parkway here in NY. No cops around.

I got up to 90-ish mph as a fearless n00b and the bike wouldn't go any faster, but Im pleased, esp since my mechanic and I got rid of the stock airbox and put on K&N pods. Some say these bikes go faster as stock, but I went pretty fast.

Pics from 3am this morning before the ride: Also, the tank bag is a new design which has a rubber bottom with slots for magnets. The bag did not fly off!

Re: Did the TON! Well.....almost

Lookin like it blew all the paint off. What kind of motorbike is it? I've had my 360 up to 92mph, but, it was way to scary to go any faster. ::)

LOL at blew the paint off. Haha. Its a 1972 Honda CB 350F

Re: Did the TON! Well.....almost - 98 MPH

Got laid last night! well kind of..........really it was just my left hand and sock after I said Hi to a girl

Re: Did the TON! Well.....almost - 98 MPH

80 seems a little too low for a record for 350F -- I've gone 80 on one with a little room. 98mph is the, ahem, Wikipedia listed top speed (perhaps a strange coincidence). I haven't gotten close to 90 on a 350F, haven't wanted to push one that fast, would likely be past or near the red line. Done 100mph on a 400F -- but there's an extra gear and 50ccs. Whatever really happened on that NY morning, I'd advise the OP to keep that thing to 75 or so if you're going to be riding for any length of time. But that's just me.

Re: Did the TON! Well.....almost - 98 MPH

not sure of the difference between a 350F and 1972 CB350K4, now again the spedo are notoriously variant on these old bikes, some say as much as 15%.

But you ride what is says on your speedo when there is no Bonneville speed trap around. The 350 K4 was rated at 106Mph in the manual. with perfect conditions, tires and rebuild, I nudged the 100, but whose to say other than the speedo?

It's all about the thrill. the Thrill comes from what YOU experience.

Sounds like you had a good run! Good fun, and good bike. ride on. My Ole CB pictured in its beauty shot.

Udouble,
Glad you tried to get it, maybe next time will be better. Get a nice tailwind and you'll break the ton. Hell, if I ever got a 98% in my school days I would have been stoked!

I was just trying it to try it. I don't know if the airpods and rejetting helped or hurt but I was going fast as hell! But I know the 4 mile strip I was on like the back of my hand. Flat and smooth like roads out in Phoenix where I spent a lot of time.

The U16 ice hockey team I coached won a State Championship once...well we lost by a goal, but close enough...nope, you either do it or you don't.

Here's an article about a guy going for the speed record at Bonneville on a 350f with a speed of 80ish mph.

Here's to another 10 pages of trash.

That link didn't work. Would love to read.

My 1971 CB 350K4 won Best Asian Bike at the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Show. I put an easy 3000 miles a year on it when i owned it. sold it about 3 years ago. all OE except the pipes. even had hand painted pin-striping on the tank like the original.

loved that ride.

I don't believe a word of it, J-Wilde would have a diaper full of shit if he went over 50 on a bike he was piloting

Thats not necessary. Was i nervous? Yep. But you're talking to a guy who had his whole rib cage broken and skull fractured in an accident as a teenager (car not a bike). I get a thrill out of overcoming my fears. Tell you what. I'll get some GoPro video of me doing it. That should settle it.

Coming right up!!

Hey, "90-ish mph Noob". Came back cause now I got a bit more time to look her over. 8)

Be sure to service the wheel bearings in the old girl before you try doing anything like that again. and while your at it double check that rear travel (tire/seat) clearance. ::) Oops and dont forget to include the rear fender youre planning to install when measuring the clearance.

Looking like you got a pretty decent platform to start with. What color do you plan to paint it? need to get her shot soon, Unless your plan is selling her to the scrap yard for beer money. :-[
