Hey guys signed up not too long ago figured i would say hi and see if i can get some suggestions for my bike.
I have a 1976 CB550F Super Sport and the performance is not what it use to be, the acceleration is not the greatest anymore.
If you guys have any cheap suggestions for me that would be great!
Heres my bike
If you guys have any cosmetic suggestions, i would be glad to have them aswell!
Thanks alot guys and glad to be apart of the forums!
nice looking SS. welcome aboard too.. =)
as for performance.. the options are endless.. with out looking/hearing your bike, kinda hard to diagnose the issue from just a photo. lol
Chances are it could be any thing from carbs needing a rebuild=tunning- to low compression and needing rings... etc.
best place to start.. pull the plugs and see what condition their in.. oily, wet gas, burnt, rusty? ... tell tale signs of whats going on in side and how your bike is firing.
I checked my plugs they seem to be burning pretty well, However i checked the spark they were getting and it was not that strong.
Could a weak spark give me a lack in acceleration & performance?
If so would going the route of electronic ignition be the way to go?
I'm not a mechanic by all means.. but i wouldn't think you would need to jump to electronic ignition right away (unless thats what you want to do.. then gett'r done! and let me know how it goes.. I want try it too.. LOL)
but I would start with testing your points, batt and all your wires.. especially your ground cable.. common over looked, underestimated cable.. lol
new plugs, wires, batt and clean points make a world of difference to old bikes like ours.
i'd start there.. and then decide what route and how much $$$ you wanna spend.
