Hi I am in Canberra and just got myself a KV100 to turn into a cafe racer, I paid $300 for it it is complete but not running, so far it's stripped down and I am cleaning parts that I want to use on it. Other than the KV 100 I have in the stable a Honda DN01 a Piaggio MP3 and a Kymco Bug. I am looking forward to the day I fire this little wonder into life. As she was the day I took her home :
I am starting to put the KV together now as you can see from the recent shot the frame is now painted, it wasn't too bad in condition so I've cleaned it up and have painted it...rattle can paint. I have had the forks resealed and just picked them up today but they won't go on for a while yet, I took the wiring loom out when I stripped the bike down and didn't cut into it so it is complete but it was sloppy looking so today I tidied it up and have worked out exactly what wire goes where. I have labelled as much as I need to so reassembling it should go smoothly, I've checked every wire for breaks and or wire showing and repaired where needed. I didn't like the old arrangement of electrical tape covering the loom so I have replaced it with a plastic sheath designed for this sort of thing this way I will get a cleaner look.
When I took this project on I was told to take photos and lots of them especially on disassembling the bike which I did and they have been invaluable in knowing just where something goes or from where it came.
I've done some work on the tank and guards both of which were pretty ordinary the tank especially. I found a product that hides a lot of blemishes it is called Hammered... I thought they came up well.
After preparation this is the first coat dried. The beaten look will do until such time as I can come up with a better tank.
The paint.
Final coat.
Tank prepped for painting.
Cut down front guard.
Rear guard.
Perhaps i should get this moved to the projects section?
This should be real nice when you're done! Are you keeping the stock style exhaust? That'd be killer on a cafe...
Whoever told you to take lots of pic's during disassembly did the right thing by you, I didn't take enough of mine and had some grief at certain points. Bagging and tagging is the other thing I didn't do...
