New Guy from Iowa needs advice.

He has hacked off the back end of the frame and taken off the side panels and air filters and made a bit of a mess of it. What he thinks it owes him is his issue to deal with. The only issue for you is what can you do with the mess he has there and what registration will cost.

KZ650 is a much better bike than most from that era, but that one is not the best example of the breed. If the rego is less than 100 bucks then I'd offer him 500 in cash and don't take any more with you. Just 5 $100 dollar bills or better yet, 25 twenties or 50 tens so that it feels like more. It's psychological. a fatter envelope just feels like more than a thin one even though you know it's the same amount.

If he won't take that, just walk away. Not all deals are meant to be done. Sometimes it's the wrong deal at the wrong time or the right deal for someone else.

If you want a bike to ride soon then it's the wrong bike for you. It doesn't run and will need additional investment in seat, lights DYNA ignition, coils perhaps and then it will probably need a set of brakes and tires if they are more than a couple of years old and that's just to get it so you can run it.

Right, Im pretty much over that bike. Just kinda bummed it didnt work out. People around here want too much for their stuff. I guess Ill just have to wait longer.

It's a no brainier at 500. Tank looks clean. A new vance and Hines four into 1. If you we're going to cafe it then you would more than likely be cutting frame there anyways. Pod air filters cheap so no harm no foul there. It actually looks to be a fairy clean bike. Does he still have front fender? And did you get a price out of him.

He wants too much. He also didnt have the cover for the point, master cyiinder, turn signals, wiring was a mess. We did get it running but he wont come down in price. That bike is going to sit there for eternity. Buuuuut I guess that leaves me still shopping. Unless someone has a bike they would like to sell for a good price to a thankful guy...

Keep looking most of the time the good deals show up and are snagged very quickly so be sure to check daily and actively. Always be on the lookout. I stopped at so many random places just because it looked like they may have something shoved in the weeds or bushes. I've picked up a lot of stuff that way. Those are also usually the best deals. The folks that aren't looking to sell and a lot of the time its because they don't need the money, or because they don't think it's worth the hassle of trying to sell. That translates to great deals sometimes. Good luck.
