New guy from NJ

I've been lurking for a little while now, I'm digging the bikes being modded here!

I haven't ridden since the early 90s, but got the idea in my head recently to take an early 70s Yamaha 2 stroke Enduro and make it a street bike. My first bike was a 1971 CT1 175 back when I was 10, which is the year and model I recently acquired to mod. My first one was stripped down and turned into a pure MX bike that I sold to buy parts for my first car. I ended up with a 1974 Norton 850 Commando as my first street bike which ended up developing gear issues beyond my skill and budget, sold that and spent a season on a 1978 KZ400 before relocating. Thought about riding a few times since, but never recaught the bug until now.

Anyway, I'm glad this site is here, I'm gaining lots of knowledge and inspirations... here is my project bike, a single owner 1971 CT1c 175. It was left in a shed to rot away for decades, still has a 1973-1974 NJ Inspection sticker on it.

I'll start a build thread once I'm further into it... I only just started pulling it apart.

Welcome to DTT. You'll find lots of Yamaha smoker lover here (I have a DT250A myself). That old girl is rough but I'm sure you'll bring it back. Damn shame about the Hooker pipe though. That's a great piece and in good condition, worth a little bit of cash. Anyhow... Keep us posted and good luck.

Thanks VonYinzer... yeah, the bike is REAL rough. I bought it real cheap for the original owner title. I wept over that pipe... I plan to replace it and add a slant cut shorty Cherry Bomb to it. I'm gutting the electrical system and going with 12v LED. I had planned straight up street tires, but since it was upgraded to a 21" front rim from the stock 18"... I'm thinking of waiting for the new Continental TKC 70 to drop for this. Superbike or sport tourer bar, all new controls...

I'm doing the frame in metallic burnt copper/orange, most everything else with be flat brown feathered in flat black. I already picked up an aluminum fork brace (not running a front fender) and aluminum skid plate. Both of them, plus the engine and wheel hubs with be mirror polished... luggage rack and hoops will be powder coated metallic brown. Already got a quote on a raised rib, chestnut brown leather seat / custom foam job.

Engine wise, I'm going with a DT or MX175 top end, stock bottom... but rebuilding it all as new. For now, I'm taking my time pulling it apart and starting to gather the pieces I need.
