Been Around the Block
First, a '91 907ie I bought brand new and still own. It was on display in the Ducati tent at the '05 VMD at Mid Ohio. (the other two bikes aren't mine)
Next Duc (there were other Japanese bikes that came and went) was a '95 900ss which I then sold to buy this in 2000.
That bike made it perfectly clear I had zero talent as a rider, so I gravitated towards the vintage side of things. Not my first project bike but my first project Ducati. Before:
After:
The vintage "scene" fit me better than the Superbike crowd which led to riding in the Motogiro d'Italia in 2005. That convinced me I had to get a single cylinder Ducati. My search led me to this package deal. A 1996 250 Monza and a 1966 160 Monza Jr.
the 250:
The 160:
Plan was to build the 250 first, but the 160 snuck in there and took center stage. It's still not done but it now looks like this:
Meanwhile, the 250 was morphing through a bunch of ideas... I finally pulled the trigger on a tank and tail for it though so now it's game on. I also managed to source an Oldani replica front hub and 350 engine for it too. Here's how it looks now (i've got a lot of work to do, many of the parts shown aren't going to be used)
Oh, and that '95 900ss I sold to buy the 996? I missed it, so last summer I bought a '97 900ss to replace it.
And that's my collection. Probably nothing you haven't seen before if you've been on any Ducati forum... these pics have been around. but... I've been lurking here for a bit now so I thought I'd jump in. I'm not sure I'd consider any of these to be true cafe racers, so I probably won't post much. Not to mention the builds are all covered on various other forums aroudn the 'net.
And finally... yes, I did name my dog Desmo. Hence the user name - I needed a username one night, he walked by... the rest is history.
