New Jersey area fabricators

Cocked, Locked, and ready to Rock.
Hey all.

I went to a few shops today in search of someone willing to work on the beast. I had ideas of looping around the rear frame tubes, cleaning off all of the unused frame tabs and having the swing arm stretched 4 inches with a mono shock (I think I saw one in the fighters section?) setup. By the time I finished explaining to each of them what I wanted I might as well have dropped a deuce on their favorite child from the look on their faces. All day I got "I know this guy who could do it but he died/moved/went insane" kind of responses.

Should I get a welder and go gung-ho on the frame myself? I’m totally up for learning to weld but should I bother? If anyone knows a decent shop or person capable of such things please let me know. I'll bring it where I need to within reason. I didn’t expect such horrified looks. ::)

Thanks everyone.

I take mine to a guy called Big W cycles . The guy's name is Werner . It's in Milford PA . It's a hike from Bergen County but for the job he does and for the money is really good . And he's honest . Good carb guru .

Out of curiousity . What kind of bike ?

Same as my sig. A 80 XS400. I want almost a full custom look but i want to keep the heavy fab work under a grand. Clean, simple, cafe.
Thanks very much for the info. He may receive a call tomorrow ;)

An 80 xs400 ? You can just buy a good frame on ebay real cheap. Would a xs650 frame work ? If so that would be your ticket . VERY plentiful. As for a monoshock I wouldn't recommend it . Not just would it be super costly and possibly dangerous you can pick up a REAL nice set of gas/oil piggiebacks for a lot less and would probably work and look better . I wanted to go that route with my SRX using FZR600 components but saw the light and got a set of Works Performance which worked perfect . As for an xs400 if I were you I'd just get it right and ride the balls off it . That guy Werner up in Milford probably wouldn't want to mess with the frame anyway . But he could have your bike running like a clock .
Maybe we can meet up soon. I'm getting a ride together at the end of the month if your interested . Ride the snot out of that xs . ;D

Im still torn about the mono shock. And i have to say piggybacks do look sexy. She most likely wont be ready but if by chance she is im up for a cruse
