New job appriciation

Coast to Coast
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

A little back info, for the last year (Since moving back from Arkansas) I have worked at a little Tobacco shop in a truck stop..This place is smaller than a 1 car garage lol..It's pretty stressful dealing with asshole truckers (not all of them are) and the elderly barking out lotto numbers at me, for Min. wage, with no advancement opportunity or a raise in my future..DEAD END to say the least..Some people have been there 4 years and STILL MAKE MIN WAGE!

So today while I was out and about, I stopped at Boardman Nissan, because I saw an Ad online they were hiring a week or so ago.. So I fill out a app, and ask if I can talk to the service manager..

He interviewed me on the spot, and loved me, then I got interviewed by the lot manager, and we clicked right away! I got offered the job ON THE SPOT! :D :D

Full time,+ OT, more money, and WAY closer ( I was driving 16 miles each way to the smoke shop, 35 miles a day) this place is 4 miles, TOPS. I'm so excited!

Starting out washing cars, and doing BS work, but I'm back in a dealership (I previously worked for Kia, which I loved) and they even told me I can be bumped up to lube tech in due time! I can't wait..I guess I'm starting tomorrow, pending my license comes back clean (It will).

The only hard part is breaking the news to the smoke shop..I feel bad because I made alot of friendships with the people there, but in the end, IT IS better for me!

Sorry for the rambling guys, but I'm just excited, and had to tell someone :) :)

Any advice on quitting my current job? I'm pretty nervous about bringing it up to them..I dunno how to/what to say ??? :-\

You have a new job all lined up - tell the current boss he's an asshole - that should do it

I'd love nothing more than to do that..You have no idea..

BUT, I don't think I have it in me :-[

Tell them your giving them your two weeks or what have you and that you have found a better job.

Done.

What if Nissan wants me fulltime before those 2 weeks?

Not a legal obligation but 2 weeks notice is standard policy, they would understand. But you can always negotiate with your current employer. Or you can just not care and walk out but you may be burning bridges by doing that.

Congrats man!

+1 to DrJ. There's no way the shop expected you to work there forever. They will probably be happy for you. Tell them you want to start at the dealership, but you're willing to help as much as possible at the shop for 2 weeks.

did you already tell the dealership that you could start right away? If you did, Id would not go back on that no matter what.. your standing at your new job is far more important that your standing at your old job. If you havent committed to starting right away at the dealership, then I would just tell your current employer that you found a new job opportunity that is better suited to you and that youd like to be written of the schedule as soon as is convenient (no more than 2 weeks.)

Business is buissnes, and friends are friends. If the friends youve made at your current job dont understand this concept then they probably arent friends worth maintaining.

I say I've been offered a job (true, I rarely ask for one) then ask current employer if they were willing to match pay/benefits of new place (they never would)
Decision becomes theirs not yours.
One former 'boss' didn't speak to me for 7 years because I took a position paying extra $100 a week ( they really, really wanted me ;D)

Right on Shaun! Very cool. Tell your present employer that you appreciate the job they gave you, but you have to be concerned with your own well being. You'll do what you can to ensure that they wont be understaffed, but the new position takes precidence.

Awsome! Good luck on the new position. I've been in and out of a few jobs but I guess it just comes down to being honest with your current employer. No matter how they react.

Best of luck man and congratulations!

Thanks everyone..I have a feeling everything will work itself out and fall into place!

Write a simple letter of resignation (google something - 1 sentence long). Tell the boss you're resigning and have found a new job closer to home working in an industry you like.

I know you appreciate your current job, but it's a fuckin smoke shop paying employees min wage year in and year out. Don't sweat it. Just thank them for the work they gave you and move on ASAP.

Just make sure your new job is signed and sealed before you quit!

Make a lifesize cardboard cutout of yourself holding a sign that says "You suck, I quit" and walk into work, put that behind the counter, then walk out and forward to your new horizon.

Hahahaha! Aetsh, if you do that, can we get a picture?

How awesome would that be?

I actually called the dealership today, to see what was up, and it went from them telling me yesterday "I would either start today maybe, or thursday" to I have one more guy to talk to, and will be making a decision later today, or tomorrow morning".

So, I'm kinda irritated about it..I guess we'll see how it plays out

Well whatever happens with this job, you should be selling those photos you're talking or charging for your service. I'm sure there's plenty of folks here who'd be more than happy to pay a little coin for quality shots. Shit mate, i'll fly you out here and you take photos of mine when it's done ;)

Thanks man..It sucks being stressed out everyday because of stupid customers..Gimme a few cars to wash a day and I'm happy as can be..

I don't think I can charge for my shots..Maybe if I did a wedding or something, but not for MC's/Car stuff.. Buy me a beer, and I'm set ;D
