New member in AZ - First Build XS650

Always wanted to build my own bike, finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 1976 Yamaha XS650 over the weekend. Paid $100 for it in running condition. I am just beginning to tear her down and then I am going to hit the "now what?" stage of my build. I am trying to keep this project on the cheap. Plan on parts hunting for bargains and all the paint and epoxy I will rattle can myself. If powder is needed anywhere i have a great hook up about a mile from my house. Motor runs, but i will probably need to freshen it up. Would like to use some of the existing parts if they are still good, like the rear drum brake (but lace it to a larger wheel). I need to find either a weld on drop seat kit or check into having one fabbed up at a shop here in Phoenix. Would like to go with a 21" in the front, maybe with a sportster frontend if they fit? And nothin too wide in the back 140 to 160 is all. Want to keep the wiring and ignition as simple as possible as well. Low tech, garage style; want to keep it pretty raw lookin, mostly black and steel with some green metal flake on the wheels and hubs. I appreciate any help or suggestions that you guys have about where to start and what should be next on my list - Josh

Hey Josh, great steal on that XS! I'm in Chandler. I built my own frame for my Sportster chop, if you need help, I'd be glad to help out. Where are you in Phx?

I am in Tempe, right by the stadium. Just got back in from more tear down, gettin closer. I am gonna be needing a weld on drop seat set-up, you know anything about that?? It seems like a steal so far, hope I can continue some good deals on parts.
