G'day Folks

I finally pulled my finger out and registered so I thought I'd introduce myself.

It's great to see how far this community has come. Last time I visited it was nothing but a couple of threads... now you guys have your own section!

Anyhoo, I'm in Western Sydney and I bought my Ace back in 2013 as a winter project (also because the missus wouldn't sign off on another sportsbike after throwing my GSXR into a gravel trap at a track day :'().

It's been running the 303 kit, clubman bars, bar end mirrors yadda yadda pretty much since new but as the weather has cooled again the modding bug has bitten and now the Ace is going through its next re-incarnation 8).

She's now running a 150cc big bore kit, Molkt carb, header pipe, clip-ons, upgraded shocks and modded forks and some more cosmetic changes.

As time allows, I'll get around to installing a pile of bits I have in the garage including chain and 16T front sprocket (16T/34T combo), header wrap, headlight, speedo and cut down fender.

A couple of wish list ideas that I'm toying with is measuring up a cb125e top triple clamp for swap-ability. It's originally for 31mm forks but 27-31mm shims are cheaply available. I like the cinch bolt setup as opposed to the retaining bolt setup the Ace has. It'll let me drop the forks through the triple if it works. Not sure if anyone here has done it yet.

I'm also going to have a crack at learning fibre glassing and upholstery to build a DIY brat seat. I'm not entirely sure that I'll like the look but I have a habit of trying something, not liking it and going back or trying something else HAHAHA. But hey, I tried and learned something :)

I'd post pics but I'm sure you all know what a silver/red Ace with clip-ons look like!!!

Best thing I like about this bike is that the owners are typically wrenchers and diy-ers... the best kind I say!

Welcome to the forum!

There are a couple of brat seats from memory; Suuscustoms even have one for sale.
I'm fairly sure no one has gone down the fork swap path, keep us posted on any progress.
Sydney winters are just about my favourite riding time so if you want to get out and about send me a PM.

Hey LOLitsPOOP

Great to hear about another Ace.

If you aren't on here, you may like to join us in FaceBook land too

And here is a website you can send people to when they ask all about the bike
www.tinyurl.com/espressoracer

And if you haven't filled this in yet for your bike, it would be great, just add it on there. We are building a good picture of what the most popular mods are

Thanks for the welcome.

I had a quick look at the mods spreadsheet. Great idea! I'll fill it out once I get back from my long weekend get away.

Just read your entry in the google spreadsheet. What did you do to the throttle? Something others can copy? and what model shocks are you using?

Regarding the DIY quick throttle its easy to do.

Crack open the throttle switch block to get to the cable. The cable runs in a channel as part of the throttle grip. Unhook the cable. Observe the action of the channel/rocker as you roll on the throttle. What you want to do is build a 'cam' inside the channel, effectively increasing the radius of its working range to give it more pull.

What I did was carefully trim down two different lengths of plastic cable tie just enough to fit snugly into the channel. Play around with position and length till you get what you want.

I used super glue to glue them in (longer tie on the bottom of shorter tie) and builders string line to tie them down till it dried.

For mine, closed throttle is standard but as throttle is rolled on, the cable ramps up onto the 'cam'.

I can grab idle to throttle stop easily in one wristful.

Be careful no to build up the cam too high that the cable jumps the channel when there is slack.

Shocks are off ebay from Mostyn. 330mm eye to eye $89.95 + $17.25 shipping. You just need to swap out the bushes from the standard shock to make them fit.

I hope this helps.
