ok first off i love this site!! im curently building a cl450 (just started yesterday) and have a ton of ideas. but my dad has a few projects that we are not sure what they are. we have two motors that we were told they were nortons but have also been told they mite be matchless. one is in a custom ridgid frame the other is a crate motor(in peices). the only info i have on them are the numbers off of the blocks. the first is 18m/114612-P and the second is 20M/3S 146175. any info would be greatfull. the first motor has a norton badge next to the number but is bearly visible. the second has a cast side plate that says norton on it also. thank you agin

Have any pics of the engines? I'm not familiar with Norton/AMC serial numbers but AJS made an 18M in the 50s, I don't recall a 20m (there was a 20). In the 50s Norton/AJS and Matchless were all part of the AMC (later Norton-Villiers).

i dont have any pics yet but will get some this weekend. is there any certin part of the motor that will help ID what it is we are worken with? kinda hard to get parts if you dont know what your starting with. i am also going to be posting all the parts that i am not useing from my stock cl450 soon. thank you for your reply any leads are a plus.

ok so this is project one. i was told its a 650 norton. there is a pic of a side plate for the carb also. mite help to id it??

That looks a lot like a Commando side cover but I don't know enough about the later bikes to say much about them.
