Im not worried about it.
Heres my 80 Kawasaki kz440 just got it last week. I couldn't wait to tear into it. clubman bars on the way with new grips. cant wait to start the seat. The muffler was gutted out when i got it so i cut it back flush with the length of the bike also gona relocate the battery and install air filter pods i got that air box outa there. Also turned the head lamp ears upside down so the lamp is a couple inches lower and the gauges also have been lowered.

welcome, man. those 440's are nice little bikes and it sounds like you're off to a good start and have a plan to follow. best of luck with it.

is that a 2-1 exhaust, and did you put a slash cut on the end? might just be the angle of the pic but it looks bad ass. you're probably going to have to re-jet the carbs from the pod filters and exhaust mods. find out what type of carbs they are, I have a ton of pilot and main jets that might work if they take the same jets as the ones on my kz750.

Edit: i just did a little searching to see if the jets would swap (couldnt find the info) and all the kawi guys are adamant about sticking with the stock airbox on the 440. apparently the carbs are a severe pita to tune and never end up running correctly. to give you an idea, i found more threads on carb swaps than on rejetting the stockers, laugh. conversely, I'm sure its possible to get them tuned, but it doesnt sound easy. also, i didnt see anyone attempting to swap out the air jets, just the primary and secondaries.

im only familiar with the kz750 twin carbs as ive worked on a few of them. the 80 and older bikes had BS38 carbs and the newer ones had BS34 carbs. either of those numbers ring a bell? im not sure how to check by looking at them. i got all my numbers from internet research (lots of it). they are both keihin cv carbs, but completely different models. this is a great forum for help with modifying old jap bikes. for straight up info on kawi twins check out the kawasaki twin owners forum (http://www.armbell.com/forum/index.php?sid=fab906ac4c771f76817557c6af9865d4&mforum=kz400). its a great resource.
