New suspension CB550

I'm planning to upgrade the rear and front suspension on my '76 Honda CB550. Down the road I would also like to put new brakes on the bike. I am a extremely novice motorcycle mechanic and am hoping for a little guidance from the extensive knowledge in this forum. With regards to the rear suspension are there any recomendations out there? brands, length, etc.. Is it as simple as just removing current suspension and putting on the new set?

I know the front suspension will be a little more involved. Can a new guy do it himself? Are there threads already created dedicated to changing the front suspension on a honda 550 that has lots of pictures :)

Thanks for the help

An early goldwing (75-77) front end is the easiest upgrade. Larger fork diameter, twin discs, pretty much a direct bolt on, I think the bearings are the same size, even. I might be wrong on that, though.
Also, the forks may be a tad long, but it's still the easiest conversion.
Some Hagon 2810's, about 300 bucks a set, seem to me to be the best bang-for-the buck shocks for out back of the bike. Adjustable preload, damping, and set up special for you and your bike from Hagon.

Do new shocks make a huge difference? I see a wide price variation between brand names, and I feel like some of these 70 dollar rear shocks look just as nice. Do these Hagon's make the ride that much better I guess is my question in your opinion?

New shocks in general are better than 40 year old blown out originals. But there is a world of difference between $90 Emgo shocks and $300 Hagons. For one, Hagon makes their shocks for your bike. Not for every "eye to clevis, 13" long" bike, but your bike specifically.

After riding on vintage blown out shocks, vintage shocks in good condition, cheap Emgo's, and Hagons, I would rather buy original shocks in good condition before Emgo crap.

Not buying shocks for how they look.
You buy them for how they perform.

Those cheap remote res shocks are worse then junk.

Hagons or progressive at the very min.

Check part numbers from Honda, or do one better and call Hagon.
As stated they are tailored to the buyer.
They make anything for anyone.
Not all the answers are on the web.

Hot set up is also an inch LONGER then stock too...
