New tire front end bounce?

my-79-750-k

Therapy is expensive. Riding is cheap. You decide.
Well, assembly is pretty much done on the Urban Warrior, and I took her out in the neighborhood to test ride. I've got brand new Pirelli Sport Demons on her, balanced and all, but the front end starts "bouncing" slightly up and down around 25-30 mph. Is this just due to the tire being new, does it need to "settle in" or do I need to take it somewhere and have 'em re-set the beads (again...) and re-balance them (again...)?

Look around the edge of the bead- there should be a rubber marker strip. Make sure it's the same depth inside the rim the whole way around. Worst comes to worst, deflate the tire and get some tire lube around the bead. Re-inflate, and it should seat properly.

If you can lift up the front of the bike and spin the wheel you should be able to eyeball any high/low spots on the tyre.

Does sound like it's not seated properly though.

at that speed, a faulty tire would be more of a vibration, look to suspension

+1, a whoop in your tire should't cause a bounce. Have you changed your fork oil?

Funny thing, my 75 750 four did the same thing when I assembled it last time with new tires. Then I hit a car eating size pot hole a few weeks back and it stopped. Haven't ridden it more than 20 miles since tho, so no idea why. But I had been wondering if others experienced this too. Back to the garage!

You need to lift front end and check for a heavy spot as well as tyre not 'beaded' correctly
Could be someone 'lost' a tyre iron ;)

Rich you saved my ass!!! hahaha just popped a new tire on and went for a ride... got the bounce... looked and it was not seated right! great tip man thank you

No problem Joe. When Beatnic came down and did my brakes, he took it for a test ride (I hadn't ridden it- no brakes!). I had to get up early the next morning so once he got back, I went to bed. Once I did get to ride it I noticed the jackhammer of a front wheel.......when I asked Doug if he felt it, he said he thought he picked up a rock in my driveway.

Thanks Rich, I was having the same problem. Pulled the wheel off and sure enough the tire wasn't beaded in.

Took it to another shop and had it reset. Tires weren't lined up even, bead wasn't set correctly and it wasn't balanced right. Lucky my ass didn't die!
