Been Around the Block
Hi all,
I'm Tony out of the panhandle of florida. Wow the bikes on this site are awesome. I can't remeber how I stumbled on this site but it lead me to cafe racer tv which is incredible how did I comepltey miss this show? I used to watch OCC and monster garage and all that stuff and it was cool the metal fab, themes, the bikes were amazing but never really struck me as "damn I want to own that". I've always loved naked bikes and had a thingy for classics but never knew about this whole cafe scene until recently so maybe I'm a poser haters will hate whatever. Really glad I found this site and I've been combning through all the builds I have alot to learn. i've been wrenching on cars since I was 10 as a parts puller for my grandfather in Ga. Dirt bikes around 13 and I had a motorcycle permit the day after getting my liscense. Been hooked since did the standard and crotch rocket never got into the choppers. I may post my questions in another section but anyhow heres my intro. This site is awesome and I hope to get alot of feedback and help on my future build. I own a 2002 honda superhawk as of now and looking for a cafe project.

Welcome to DTT man and lets see a pic of your ride ;D It always helps having a bike that runs and you can enjoy when you have a build going . A few things to think about is how far do you want to go ? Full rebuild on a non-running bike or doing some mods on a good running but seen better days bike ? If you take your time and learn the things you dont know then the skys the limit ;D
You have to remember what you see on those show is they have everything they need there to buy, build, people with know how,and Big $$ behind them .
If you stay around long enough youll find people that are very smart when it comes to bike and are cool dudes if you lisen but come off rough and theres guys that are just make you grind your teeth but over all a great group of people !!!

Oh yeah I understand those guys have a dream shop compared to most peoples garage. I want to go all out full rebuild and such, currently working on building a powder coating oven to do my parts on and a few freinds total garage cheap build should have all the scrounged parts with in next month or so, its slow when your cheap and would rather find something for free or close to it and just buy new electronics. I posted my possible build choices in the 1-800 -cafe help section but seems slow to get a response. Right now I'm stuck between an 82 xt550, 70's 500cc triumph hopefully complete basket case, two kz550 83 kawasakis, or blow (what little money I can) on a local CL450 71 honda that doesnt run and weathered pretty bad but is complete. was looking for advice in the other section or suggestions I guess on what would be a decent choice for build. I know it's all about what I'd like but knowing that converting an enduro is more challening then finding swapable parts for a kz550 is the kinda wisdom I'm looking for. I've had mega speed before done with that and here in florida I don't have awesome canyons or winding roads so really I wont be able to "play" with a light a nimble bike but it'd be nice to have and maybe build with my son. Or show him how not all bikes have to have crazy graphics and fairing to be fun.

Think any thing you decide to build will be a fun build ! You can take diff parts or build your own to fit your needs ! I started building a CB650 but hated the frame so found a XS which it had everything i was looking for like flat frame, all there ,twin ! I have parts from stock to new from HDs, diff year yamaha ,and parts i had made on mine ! One of the biggest things i think you need is can i do that safely and not make the bike a death cycle ?
When you look at the bikes your looking at just think if i do this or that what will need done to get it there?

I got a kz650 project with every thing to put a 810 kit in it titled frame motor extra 750 top end for machine work nos pipes several boxes of parts a cafe seat and stock tank no rear wheel swing arm or carbs 250 and the ride from western md ill go 200 if you dont want the front end

Hey bradJ sounds good but after gas and all its be back up to what I was already looking and most of these run or very close to it and complete. Appreicate the offer though.

Welcome to the site! As you've already seen, you won't find many, if any, haters on this site. This is the only site I can post on knowing everyone who responds is excited and happy to help!

Maybe I just thought there might be since before I ever joined I read a number of post and one was about someone asking if it was just him or are cafe racers the new fad and all look the same.

O he's good people just letting off some steam and think of it this way is after reading the thread does it make you want to think outside of the box ? But how many diff ways can you do a bike befor they start looking the same happens to ALL BIKES but the one you build because you built it ;D
