NOS Hoske

Any thoughts on these? While buying them would be pointless considering Mojo is still on the lift suffering from a locked drivetrain I have been searching for a good set of rearsets for a while.

They are the same as http://www.caferace.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=C&Product_Code=BMWREAR&Category_Code=RRBT but NOS vs new... same price too... so which way does an Airhead lean?

OUCH! Almost $300 bucks for rearsets? Look I am not sure what bike you have intended to mount these on. But I am sure you can get a good setup using some modern day crotch rocket controls. You might find them cheap on ebay or go to a bike junk yard and see if they have a set. My guess is they might charge you about 50 - 60 bucks for a decent used set. Then make some mounting plates yourself and fit then somewhere between the passenger peg and swing arm mount on the frame. Or you can weld the mounts on. Check out my post with pics of my rearsets. I cut off the passenger peg mounts and I had a friend weld up the mounting plate to the frame for $60. The used rearsets (basically modern stock crotch rocket foot pegs and lever sets) cost $45. Longer rods cost me about another $20. They look pretty good, similar to what you are looking at, but way cheaper. Use the link to see them. The ones you are picturing are great too. Just a bit out of my budget.

Let me know what you end up doing and how it came out.

They would be going on my 1977 R75/7 BMW... you get used to the costs I guess :D

I know I could mod up a pair of Japanese controls but I like to stay European on my parts. Basically I've built a late 70's bolt up racer... no major mods just the aftermarket parts that were available in Europe when the bike was new... that's why I'm willing to smack the $300 down for 70's NOS parts...

The other factor is I did a frame-off 2 years ago and will not be welding on her any time soon :D

The new ones are made in Sweden but lack the rubber bits form the NOS and look more modern... which is fine if they work significantly better.

All things being equal...

NOS > New.

Simply for the fact that it's probably more "authentic". Of course, if you want functionality more then looks, the new wins.

Fuck it... bought 'em

Hoske is well respected for their BMW tanks and silencers... rear-sets are few and far between... and all things being equal these will look much more period on Mojo than the newer ones... that cost the same anyway ::)

Damn I better get this bike running soon... best looking piece of garage sculpture I own right now!

So I guess there's no way I'd convince you to sell me the Mikuni's back then? :)
