Not only my first etc etc! - Exhaust Fabrication Done! Pics!

Re: Not only my first etc etc! - Spring Thaw

Since I'm going to get rid of them next year, maybe I'll rattle can them, couldn't hurt.

Re: Not only my first etc etc! - Spring Thaw

Just got a call telling me my Ikon's are with UPS.. should be here friday! Hopefully I can find sometime to get everything buttoned up.

Re: Not only my first etc etc! - Spring Thaw

The ones in the pictures so far are Hagons, but I have Ikons on there now. I bought the Hagons from a guy over at caferacer.net, and they were not really sprung for a 350, so they pretty much made the bike a hardtail. I was gonna just order a proper set from Dave Quinn, but then I decided to splurge on some Ikons.

If I could just sell my damn car already, a camera would be one of the first things I go out and buy so I could take pictures of my progress..

Re: Not only my first etc etc! - Spring Thaw

Just sold my car.. ordered camera! Should be here by the end of the week.. finally I can make updates with pictures!

I have my BT45's on the bike now, friend is doing some welding on my exhaust, shit is really coming together! Once the exhaust is all fabbed up I am afraid I might have to retune the bike as when I had it mocked up it idled fine, and revved fine in neutral, but in gear it struggled until it hit high rpms. It's probably just a jetting issue.. we will see.

Re: Not only my first etc etc! - Spring Thaw

Finally, new pictures!

My friend and I finished up fabrication work on the exhaust just the other day. The headers still need to be painted and heat wrapped, and I need to figure out some sort of heat shield near my leg. The bike is still loud, just not open-pipes-stupid-loud. I like it. Now I need to tune it; it's running like shit. I'm pretty sure I need to rejet, but I think it may just be that the carbs are all gunked up from the winter sleep. Either way, here are some pics:

My friend took the merge collector into work to tig the tabs with stainless filler, but we had to mock it all up on the bike before welding the others, so he used his own flux mig. Not as pretty, but they are solid welds, and the headers are going to get painted and wrapped anyways!

Anyways, now that I have a camera I should be updating a bit more regularly!

I'm just going to throw this out there, so you can send it right back if you don't like it. But what if you didn't wrap the headers? They're so nice.

Bike looks good, btw!

Thanks for the compliment! And ya, I mean I ideally would want to just build my own stainless exhaust, and run it raw, or maybe chrome it depending on how I felt about the particular build... but alas I don't have the tools and wherewithal to build my own exhaust yet, so I'm using stuff from here and there. And the CL headers came to me pitted and dinged up, then I cut them, ground off the chrome in order to weld on the tabs, etc. So if I leave them as is, they will look 1000x worse than they already do now (the rustiness and whatnot doesn't show that much in the pics). So I could try to find an outfit that will rechrome used exhaust (doubt I will find one) or I can paint them/ get them ceramic coated and run them like that, or I can paint them to stop the rust and heat wrap them. I think the third option will be the best aesthetically.

p.s. Your bike looks amazing, I'm gonna go hunt down your build thread right now..

you ever going to hit me up to ride! ill take out the TX and we can go rip!

of course man! I just need to get this thing to be reliable.. I rode it for probably 15-20 miles yesterday (I got caught in that torrential downpour! .. just washed off all the crud now) and she just runs like piss, and I don't wanna be "that guy" with the bike that is constantly broken down when going on rides with others... But ya, hopefully I will have it all sorted out soonish... it has slowly but surely become more and more road worthy :)

hahaha i feel ya man! no worries i still need to get the VM carbs on my TX anyway... let me know if you need any help

I was having some carb issues, bike was running like shit, esp in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range. This should be needle jet territory, but cb350s don't have adjustable needle jets, or at least the keihn's that came on my bike don't...

So I finally stopped being lazy and just took the damn carbs off the bike to inspect them. After sitting all winter, the bike hadn't really run quite right.. maybe the carbs were just gummed up. Also, before ordering new jets, I needed to double check what jets I had in there. I start first with the left side, it had been fouling out the plug.. Heres what I found:

May be a bit hard to see, but the needle is not even in the jet! The retaining clip and some how popped off, and so this was the reason my bike had been running like absolute shit. I put in a new (used) needle since this one had gotten marred, threw it all back together, and she runs like a champ! Sadly my victory ride was short lived as my fuel lines are leaking something awful. I have some oem fuel line clamps that seem to do absolutely nothing. 1/4 is the right size fuel line, right? I have to place another order with DCC, so I guess I'll just oder some of their fuel line clamps, they seem to be of higher quality.

Glad to hear you got the carbs sorted (it must have been running like poo.....)

Your fuel hose should be a slightly smaller diameter than the tap and carb outlets. The hose should stretch over the outlets (slightly) so there shouldn't be any leakage. Maybe your current hose ID is too large?

i always use those 1/16" wide small zip ties on my fuel lines.. never have a problem.. just get in there with some needle nose and pull like an ape
