Obligatory, "Bike won't start thread"

Fox

I've still got those patches...
Howdy gents,

Been awhile.

In the final stages of my CL360 project and for the life of me, I can't get the thing to run. I've verified the essentials, fuel, spark, and compression, but still nothing. Checked timing chain and it's on perfectly. Have yet to check spark timing, but could that really make things not start?

Really, a list of things to check on for non-starting bikes would be awesome, or if someone can point me to a thread thats already got that. Thanks in advance.

sounds like timings the only thing youre missing. your spark advancer could be out 180 but first set the timing. you can damage your engine with really off timing anyway. so its a good thing it wont start.

Yeah, It could be the timing. I'm gonna check on that this week.

Anyone else got other ideas on things to check?

These bikes are simple.

Spark, Fuel, and Compression, and it will likely run. Check that you have all three. Even if timing is off it should still at least sputter to life. If you have any doubts about the spark condition, fix it.

Check that your valves are adjusted. Check that your spark plug is getting wet from fuel. If not, you probably have a clogged jet.

and please, SEARCH. People have spent a lot of time making bike troubleshooting guides to help you with these problems. Don't overthink it. Spark, fuel, compression. Chances are one of the three is off.
