Obtaining a MI title. Help if you've had the experience!

I currently live in TX but I am moving back to MI. I bought a cb360 out of Oklahoma with NO TITLE. All I have is a bill of sale. What do I have to do to get this thing registered and titled here in MI? Is it even possible or will I have to buy a frame/junk bike with a title?

I haven't had to get a bike retitled, but from what I'm told here in Michigan is one of the easier places. Good luck man.

You can go to the sec of state and download the following 3 forms..
TR-54
TR205
BDVR-108

There is another one that you'll need to do at the Sec of State in person.

You fill those out, and you'll have to have it inspected to make sure it's not a stolen bike, etc.. and you'll be up and rolling..

I got my SR250 titled here last year. I don't remember the form numbers (and I can't find the paperwork in my "filing system") but I just went to the Sec. of State and told them what I needed and they set me up correctly on the third try probably. If you're moving somewhere with a competent SoS office, then it should only take one or two times. The most important part is having the contact info of the previous owner, which you should have on your bill of sale. Hell, I didn't even have the full address of the previous owner of my bike and I got it. Good luck with it all, but it's really not that bad, just a couple hoops to jump through.

I titled two cb360s last year, one running bike and one parts bike just for the heck of it. All I had to do was bring in the vin with a bill of sale and they transferred (created) the title. They have to do a 30 minute background check on the bike to make sure its not reported stolen and it was all set.

easy process, just bring the vin and a receipt and tell them the former owner lost the title. If they ask make sure you tell them it is still a stock bike (not modified) so you avoid any type of inspections. I got one for a 64 Dream, took less than 30 minutes.

I would consider putting a authentic plate on it also, Michigan lets you pay once and its good as long as you own the bike or car.

Any other steps you have to go through to do this? I have a 77 gs550 and would love an old school plate on it.

just need to buy a plate from e-bay or a privite party, print the form from mich.gov ( Authentic license plate ) and make a photo copy of the plate and send it in with proof of insurance and in a couple of weeks your good to go. Let me know if you need a plate, I found a guy who has a bunch of uncirculated plates so I was able to get plates that were numberd in order for my two 75's.

Toad, I just saw this. Any chance he's got a good 1978 plate? It'll be a red 1976 plate with a sticker, I believe. They went to the black and white plate in '79. Bonus points if the letters on it are XS! ;)
