ok so today i decided to replace the leaking gasket around the points system, so i undo all the screws holding it on and there is a bolt and nut still holding it on so i undo it and slide the cover off..........but the bolt i undid slides out a bit also and now im worried and cofused as to what this is and does

the bolt with the flathead end slid out when removeing the cover, i thought i might have heard something drop when it slid out, i need help......i should just stick to cars

It's not the end of the world, but..... ;D
Not a huge deal. Those studs are the adjusters for the rocker arms. The nut that was around the stud is the lock nut for adjusting the rockers. If you want to be sure everything is ok in there, pull the top of the engine off and take a look. You will need to set timing and readjust the valve clearances after its back together. Do you have a manual? And it's not much different than a car, just smaller! :D

ha i should quit drinking too.

So wait what did i do when that shaft came out?
did anything fall?
and you want me to do what now? remove the top end?....ugggg on the bike? i don't have a manual yet. FUCK!

Thats the same seal that was leaking on my 350 when I got it. I got as far as getting the points plate off when I decided to put it back together and have the pros do it.

They replaced that seal and tuned up the whole bike with new plugs, oil change, adjusted timing and points, carbs, valves, and more all for $150.

To me it was totally worth it....

I know this doesn't help... but I got scared to try and fix it myself... you might see what your local shop would charge... I think its an easy job for those who know more then me... which is a lot of people ;D

can i put the rocker arm adjuster back in and adjust it to where i think i remember it and ride it to the near by bike shop for them to tune it up?
does anything ride/slide on that stud?

The rocker arm has a hole in it that the stud passes through. You should be able to slide the studs back into the rockers without pulling the top off. I just suggested that if you want to actually see how all these things fit together and be 100% sure it's all good.
I really doubt that it would even start with the valves unadjusted, timing off and the points not set.
I'd track down a manual before doing anything else. ;)

I have a manual but its on my computer and i was at a friends shop working on my bike. thank god i opened the valve cover, i saw the rocker arm not on the adjuster shaft so i got a 0.03 feeler gauge - stuck it in there between the cam and tightened it down. i didnt have oil so i didnt start it yet to hear it but i did replace the clutch :)
