Oh How I Miss Her.....

Here's a bit of inspiration for you CB900f owners.....

Unfortunately I don't have this anymore, and it doesn't exist as it does in this photo, but this was my big stupid money pit 20 years ago. '81 900f with Wiseco 983 kit, 1100f wheels (Canadian version), 1100f carbs with a Stage III Jet kit, Cal-Fab swingarm, Supertrapp stainless exhaust, Earl's Oil cooler, Lockheed calipers with braided lines, genuine HRC discs and brake hangers, Telefix fork brace, Raask rearsets, Dyna coils, CBX master cyilinder, Lockhart steering damper, Marzocchi Symbol shocks, Corbin seat, tank cover, and for even more weirdness -- a Velorex 562 colour matched sidecar. Much of the work was done by the now defunct Race Line Cycle (anyone remember Rick Sutcliffe???), Ontario Honda, Leitner & Bush, and the sidecar came from Cycle City in Burlington. Very exciting to ride, particularly on right hand turns with no weight in the sidecar!

The bike was featured in Showcase in Cycle Canada in June of 1989, and it was at the same time I rode the bike to Alaska from Toronto. Funny to have complete strangers in Saskatoon come up to me and tell me about seeing the bike in the magazine and knowing about the trip etc.

Maybe some day I'll try to recreate the bike -- without the sidecar, this time!

A buddy of mine is restoring an old CB750 to run a sidecar on. He picked up the bike and sidecar last fall and has spent all winter working on it. Wanted something that he and his son could go cruising in. Awesome bike man!

I'd love to get my hands on a 900f again. I wonder how hard it would be to find those parts today -- the CalFab swingarm and the 1100f wheels in particular?

that bike is mean looking. sounds like an incredible trip.

The trip was about 11,000 miles in total over the course of 31 days (June 15-July 15, 1989). The best part was the blown piston 150 miles east of Thunder Bay, and spending a week in Thunder Bay waiting for the Wiseco piston to arrive and having the work done to fix it. Then to make up time I rode from Thunder Bay to Saskatoon in 21 hours straight -- about 1100 miles. From Alaska, I took the ferry down the coast to Vancouver Island, then down to Seattle, and back to Toronto through the lower 48. If I can manage to scan a few more shots, I'll post them.

Would do the trip all over again, troubles and all.

i was talking yesteday about driving to vancouver and then on to alaska from Ca. sounds incredible and again great looking bike
