Yeah Son!
I know this has been beat to death but the search feature doesn't seem to be working.
I just replaced by stock oil tank on my CB750f1 with this one from Cognito Moto. I drained the oil from the engine, (I did not pull the filter) and the oil from the original lines and the tank.
Bolted up the new tank (advertised as capacity at 3.25 qts.). Filled it up to the bung, about 3 qt.s. Ran the engine for about a minute and then looked in the tank again and about 30% of the oil had been sucked into the engine. I had purchased a gallon (4 qts.) of Rotella oil so I poured the rest in the tank.
Now I am questioning if that was a good decision. Is it going to hurt to have over the stated capacity? From what I understand from reading about the dry sump system the engine uses what it needs and the rest hangs out in the tank and cools. If that is true it would help to have all the oil you can so it will stay cooler??? Or should I drain a qt off so its back a 3 qts.?
