picture there...

Where the heck is this oil coming from?

I've tested/fixed the following :

Oil lines to the bike
stator cover / gasket tight
oil drain plug / filter

No other ideas... Someone mentioned there is a seal behind the stator.. would this leak pattern represent something from that area?

Bike is a 78 cb750k, and I can provide more pics if you want to see specific areas.

There is oil in the stator area, but I'm told it's a "wet" stator, and is fine.

Have a look behind the sprocket cover. Not familiar with the 750, but there are usually a couple of oil seals there that can go or leak like the shifter or countershaft.

Could be the shifter seal, possibly the chain oiler. It looks like oil could be running down the kickstand, off the frame, which means it could be coming from anywhere...

Thanks for the fast responses.

The sprocket cover is off, any idea where these seals would be?

I'm going to remove the covers on the shifter and stator to get some pics.

do you all mind saving this thread?

Looks like you replaced all of the exterior hardware with socket head screws, did you take any of the covers off when you replaced the hardware?

I did, but only the stator. I replaced the gasket on that.

I did not remove the shifter one, so that has not been replaced yet.

Kickstand leaks were pretty common in the last revisions of the 750.

Anyway, remove that sprocket cover and spray everything down with carb cleaner until that side of the case, the bottom, and the frame is devoid of oil or grime.

Once everything is dry, just puff some baby powder all over that side of the case. Check up on it every hour and eventually you might find the trail of tears.

freaking genius...

I tried this with the paper towel, but couldn't pinpoint it...

no idea why I didnt think of baby powder lol.

will report back. Thanks guys
