OK... CB/CL450 gurus, time to drop some knowledge.

Looks like I'm picking up a truck load of early 70s CB/CL450 stuff here shortly. Two and a half motors in various stated of disrepair, a couple frames, yadda yadda yadda. My original plan was to do a full 60s style chop, but for reasons ranging from my abject near poverty to the basic logistics of such a build I've decided to simplify the eventual project.

So, just shooting for the standard "lose weight, add some power and reliabilty, make it kinda neat looking" plan of attack. Similar to this DTT members bike here:

Well, similar in that the minimalist approach will be taken in my project as well. Little more performance oriented as far as brakes and rolling stock goes though. Which brings me to my real inquiry.

What do we know about getting a bit more go out these old 450s without losing reliability? I've already aquired the startwr delete plug and PAMCO set up (thanks fellas) for a little weight shaving and simplified/upgraded function.

I plan on making my own proper exhaust with actual performance in mind. Carbs will be the oft loved Mikuni VMs (32s). Top end will certainly be completely rebuilt, and as many new/upgraded parts used as possible.

What else? Are there pistons from another machine that along with an overbore will do the trick? Thats the kind of info I'm after. The build won't start until fall, and will take a good while to finish as I really want it to be "right".

Anyhow, thanks in advance.

Yeah... HP does, and that's ok. I just have to resign myself to a LLOOOOOONG term build. Haha. I'm used to that though.

Thanks for the links. I've perused Hansen Racing before (CB350 stuff). Big money.

If you beef up that motor, look at putting the oil pump from a 500T in. Getting those damned rockers reground costs an arm and a leg each, and there are four of them.

Oil pump upgrade is a no brainier hot engine or not, they pump about 30% more however MOST of the 450's got the newer pump, they put them in/after k3 models I think. 500t Pumps are same as the later 450.

I would love to find some one that made the cam chain rollers for decent price too. Not 100 bucks a pop.

I got your spares Von... my K5 CB450 will never see the light of day again I fear. It's been in bins since I dismantled her. Unless I can find a titled frame and a decent engine... and everything that bolts onto both. ::)

Ha... Once I get my pile o' parts here and gone through, I may just hit ya up fella. Thanks.

You can always swap in a cb500t crank and rods wth with the stock pistons. supposed to be a nice upgrade. cb500t has a longer swing arm that bolts up as well.
