Old Number... 8?

Oh I love scotch! Once or twice me and my friends got into some boats on Lake Minnetonka and borrowed several bottles of booze... I remember a bottle of Cutty Stark being a hit. MMMmmm Jameson in my opinion is the only whisky to drink other than Johnny Walker Black...although I have yet to experience Bushmills for some reason. And Swagger I have to Coke is good in MOST not all...I would never contaminate my Jameson with coke.

I have had Johnny's Red, Black and Blue... Never tasted much of a difference worth paying the premium.

This is my "Special Reserve". One of which is saved for whenever I decide to get married.

Tullamore Dew is so awesome but if I'm broke I'll buy Canadian Mist and mix with Diet Coke. I don't drink Jack Daniels because I'm afraid that I'll start listening to David Allan Coe and dipping Cope. That just wouldn't be me. I can only handle Taylor Swift and Berry Blend Skoal pouches.

Ditto to the JD Single Barrel - its got a mix of port in it here, goes down quite smoothly. Comes in a wonderful wax-sealed slab-sided bottle, too.

I couldn't agree more about not contaminating Jameson, MrBerner!

I wouldn't contaminate ANY whiskey with Coke. If its not good on ice, then its not worth drinking!

I'd better go back and read what I posted.....but really most $25 whiskeys are pretty pedestrian (ie: best mixed) compared to the higher end stuff we're talking about.

Well most of the whiskeys we've been talking about are no more than $30 for a 750ML. Bushmills white label is $19.99, Bushmills Blackbush is $29.99, Tullimore Dew $20.99, Jameson $18.99, JD $17.99, JD Gentleman Jack $23.99, even JD Single Barrel is only $39.99, Makers Mark $19.99, Glenfiddich 12 yr $28.98. So you see, unless you are drinking in the $5-$10 whiskey range, you shouldn't be mixing anything. Furthermore if you are drinking in the $5-$10 whiskey range, you'd be better off siphoning gas out of your bike!! :p

Uhhh...where the hell are you getting BlackBush for that price? I wanna more there!
I think the last 5th i bought ran something like $50 or so here (Portland metro)

Here in South Bama a bottle of Bushmills white runs 35.00. And yes... lots of whiskey should be mixed with coke. Just not any good whiskey :)

The only thing I'll mix with Jameson is Ginger Ale... I think that may be a Minneapolis thing tho. If you haven't had it give it a shot its amazing.

Ginger ale is a hell of a mixer - goes well with almost anything.

Down here in Australia 5ths aren't too common and most people buy 750ml bottles as they are the standard. Prices go from $30 for something cheap and nasty, up to around $55 for JD single barrel. Above and beyond that you have your nicer stuff like JWalker black and blue labels.

You can also buy a 2 litre bottle of Jim Beam burbon for $80.

I'm in SoCal. The local BevMo sells it all for pretty cheap. Actually the price is not much more at all the local grocery stores as well.

On a side note, here is my lovely dessert menu..

Ok, this is what I meant in all my other posts - not JB 'Single Barrel' but JB 'Small Batch'. Handcrafted by the JB fellows with a bit of port added as well to round out the flavour. Quite nice I reckon.

that does sound nice, boingk! i'll have to try that!

Yeah, definitely give it a try - it all started when I put together a 'party pack' for my bro when he turned 18. You know, goofy bag with the essentials: a few condoms, a cigar and a bottle of spirits. He liked JB at the time so I went a one better and got the Small Batch.

Flip forward a few years and now we both love the stuff.

I dig port so I've got to try that bourbon/port mix.

Even with all the pricey stuff I've tried, my favorite continues to be Old Overholt:

I started drinking it in college because it was all I could afford. Maybe it fucked up my taste buds because now I'd rather have it than most things for twice the price. I haven't found many high end ryes so maybe that's part of the deal.

I hate to admit it but I just don't drink Scotch. Good Scotch is pretty nice, but bad Scotch is the worst. Tastes like cat vomit. Most of the time the cat vomit is all I've been able to afford so I've kind of burned myself for Scotch. Maybe when I strike rich I'll try again. The wife loves Lephroaig so we always keep some around the house.

If I have a little more money I like a nice sip of Knob Creek:

And for Irish, which I always think tastes like chocolate, Tullamore Dew is definitely good. I'm surprised though nobody has mentioned Powers. Great sipping Irish:

Seriously though I'll drink any whiskey you give me, even if it's from a plastic bottle. Just not bad Scotch.

A little mood music

That looks incredible but, I can't find it anywhere!! Is it by chance the same as Knob Creek 9 yr??

Looks to be the same bottle and sealing, but I've never seen it here in Australia. You could try asking the local bottle-o to order one in special for you, or at least check their order list to even see if it exists up your way.

Failing all that, I'm sure you could order it over the net.

Ya thats the conclusion I've come to. I have no idea why we wouldn't get it in the States since Jim Beam is MADE in Kentucky hah! I checked on their site and they have several "small batch" bourbons, one happens to be the Knob Creek 9 yr small batch bourbon, with a similar bottle and description of production and flavor. I'm going to pick up a bottle and give it a try. I'll let you know my thoughts. It definitely sounds delicious!
