On Bike Storage

I know it sounds stupid on a cafe racer forum, but what have you guys done for on-bike storage? Anyone come up with some clever places to stash stuff? Once I get my bike back up and running I'll be taking it to work again and I need to carry at least my lunch and my Nexus 7 with me.

I would use a backpack like normal but I eventually want to buy a hit-air vest from SaferMoto (I dont wanna hear how its not cool :p ) so wearing a backpack with that isn't an option. I have a lot of room under my cafe tail section but it wouldn't be weather/ road crap proof. Maybe a small pelican style box mounted under there? Hmm.

I just use a backpack, but if you didn't want to go that route you could attach some paniers or use a tank bag. With the paniers, you can make them so they are easily detachable for when you don't need them, and you can make them to suit the style of your bike.

Some equestrian saddlebags thrown over the seat just behind the gas tank work great.

what kind of seat are you running? I'm building some storage inside the rear hump on my seat. It sounds like a tank bag would be your best option, given you don't need to carry much.

I have a Roc City Interceptor seat, so there's a fair amount of room under there.

if your battery doesn't live there, i'd start there. I'm making a hinged door that swings down built into the panel I'm cutting to fit the rear hoop. The seat itself is solid, for rigidity, but the flat sheet metal welded into the hoop will get cut.
