One COLD BLOODED CB350!!!!!

My CB350 is very cold blooded. I have to choke it in the morning to crank it which is only normal. The thing that gets me is during the day if I try to crank it again I still have to use the choke. It is a stock 350 motor with 2 onto 1 Mac exhaust and Mikuni VM30's and pod filters. The pilot jet is #20. Pilot screw set at 1 turn out. The main jet #150. My question is, Is it normal to have to choke it to crank it each time the motor cools off during the day? It cranks fine, first kick, when the engine is warm. The Mikunis have an enricher instead of a butterfly choke. Since I have to use the enricher most times to start it, does that mean it's set too lean? Also, when I first crank it I have to hold the throttle open slightly because it will not idle on its own. It takes about 3 min's to warm up then I can let go of the throttle and it will idle normally at 1100 RPM's.

Personally, I've always thought hondas were cold blooded. I've had three bikes, three four wheelers, a lawnmower, and a generator from honda. All were stock, all required choke to start. I wouldn't worry about it.

You're probably just a little bit overcarbed. The lower-than-normal revs of a start-up just aren't enough to pull enough air through the carbs and so the choke is required. Not a serious issue though you can switch out to VM28s and I bet the "problem" would go away.

Sounds pretty normal.

My GS450 behaves the same way. Doesn't idle until the engine is warmed up. If I set the idle high enough that it will keep running after warm up, the warm idle is too fast. My daughter's GZ250 does the same thing to a lesser extent.

Your bike doesn't know what time it is. ;) it's normal to have to use the choke when the engine cools down, no matter what time of day.

Sounds like the starting routine for my KZ1000. Even in the dead of summer, once that engine cools off, you usually have to choke it for a moment to fire it up again. It always starts and runs, so I don't mind too much.
