Options for Hot Engine?

OpTiCz

Coast to Coast
I had my bike running at high RPMs on the highway today for 20-30 minutes.
Got on off ramp and you could tell things were just way too hot.
I could practically feel it on my face and there was a little smoke from engine.
I haven't checked my oil levels yet, but what other options do I have for keeping things cooler?

I'm thinking an oil cooler is my best bet.
Anyone have a good source, or know where I can get the adapter specifically for a CB750F1?

Thanks!
Mike.

I'd double-check those oil levels. Even though you're at high RPM on the highway, you're generally moving pretty quickly and throttle is fairly constant. The bike will run cooler on the freeway than it will in town.

+1.

An air cooled bike shouldn't over heat unless something is wrong. If the jetting is lean, obstruction of the cooling fins, low oil level, etc can cause the motor to become too hot though. And some bikes tend to burn oil at higher rpm's, which can creep up on you.

Believe it or not, the gasoline coming in from the carbs cools the motor. Too little gas, and it heats up pretty quick. Too much and the combustion won't be complete (it will run like crap and foul plugs).

Here's a dumb question. Can you have too much oil in the oil tank?

I've got a custom tank, it had around the same volume of the stock tank. The level is just below the return line level, so it's probably 75% to the top of the tank

Typed with thumbs - don't judge.

750's should have a total of 2.5 quarts of oil. A little more with an oil cooler. I have an oil cooler adapter for a 750 that I'm not using if you're interested. The bike shouldn't need it though. Might be time to drop you're pan and inspect your oil pump.

Would there be any issues putting the oil level higher than the return line?

Typed with thumbs - don't judge.
