Paint fading under clearcoat?

Im just curious about this to see if I can keep some costs down on my paintjob. If my tank is spraybombed, then take it in to get professionally clearcoated, will the paint fade underneath the clearcoat? Or will the clearcoat provide ample protection?

Thanks,

I would just spray it and clear it yourself. 1 can of each will do the trick and you will only be out $12 if you don't like it. I just painted my truck in the driveway yesterday on a whim. I was just cleaning it and decided to freshen up some spots. Came out a lot better then anticipated. But when I do my bike I plan to wet sand it between coats and it should turn out real nice.

Over the counter clearcoats dont do well against chemicals, rocks or gasoline. Im on a budget but want to do it right too.

pro clearcoats are urethane based, most cheap sprays are lacquer or enamel, while every painter will tell you you can't mix systems, a lacquer base with urethane clear should work quite well, as long as the lacquer is completely dry

So a good clearcoat will keep paint from fading? Obviously the clearcoat will be waxed throughout the year.
