Pair of new Mikuni VM34's - jetted pretty much for XS650

Hey all - I've got a pair of nice new VM34's. I'll confirm but I believe the jetting is pretty much spot on for a stock XS650. I can provide my own recipe for jetting the XS, which I'm using. Seems to be working really nice for my bike.

I need a pair of VM32's, so I'd be willing to trade straight-up for new ones, otherwise I'll sell these and buy some elsewhere.

If you want them let me know and we'll sort it out.

Im just curious Tim, how come you want to go down to a smaller size? would there be an advantage?... seems to me your carb set up is absolutely perfect... (Ive seen an xs650 start with such a lazy, easy-peazy kick like on your bike...)

I have a vm36 on the SR500 and Im in the process of jetting it to be perfect for the bike.. 1 carb to manage is nice!!.. ;D

Ive seen some kits on ebay for a 2-1 carb manifold running a vm36.. (or is it a vm38?).. that way you can run 1 carb on the xs650 rather than 2 carbs!!

The VM32's are for the BMW. My XS is running like a clock baby! Mikuni's are dialed-in. I want the same setup on my BMW and most kits call for 32's.

I'll probably just toss the 34's on the BMW and make it work. Maybe I'll just have to port the heads to accommodate the extra flow.

I just picked up a '77 XS650 over the weekend. Project number 3! 90% complete to being road-ready.

I know little about the 650 world, but I just ordered some new pipes and exhaust gaskets from MikesXS. Stock carbs are on there, but I'm wondering if I could try out your 34's if you're still trying to part with them? How much?

If not, (sidenote, sorry) I want to run the pipes wide open, and put stacks on the stock carbs. Any recommendations on jetting & carb settings?

Thanks in advance Tim. Trying to get this baby on the road before the Summer in Seattle vanishes, which can happen in an instant ;)

I don't know much about the stock carbs - when I got my XS it wasn't running. First thing I did was tear it all down and put the stock carbs in a box far in the corner of my garage.

My XS is set up with stock cam, stock bore (fresh 0.5mm bore and new pistons/rings from MikesXS) and I'm running replacement headers from MikesXS with British Brituro Megaton silencers:

"ON THE INLET OF THE SILENCER IT HAS STAMPED NOT FOR ROAD USE WHICH CAN BE DISGUISED WITH AN EXTRA EXHAUST CLAMP." :D

And I'm running a Boyer electronic ignition.

I'm running Mikuni VM34's and played around with the jetting and have it running pretty darn nice I think. Want to get it on a dyno to identify and work on any flat spots, but it pulls really strong past 100mph so I'm not complaining. Plugs nice and tan too.

I'll confirm the jetting etc. in this set and get back to you with details / price and what else you'd need (1 into 2 throttle cable from MikesXS for example).

Thanks Tim... Yeah just let me know... I'm comfortable with rejetting and troubleshooting carb issues, but I'm trying to keep this project as headache-free as possible (I've got 2 other active projects I'm trying to wrap up!)... With the open pipes and velocity stacks (or UNI foam filters), I'd like to be able to put on these new carbs and have them all set to go...

I'm running UNI's as well - like them so far. Will send PM today with some details.

Sick! I plan on running open pipes, or maybe just a small, home-brewed baffle - so I still might have to jet up one. I'm also running the Boyer ignition system from Mike's.

Here she is as she sits today:

So I got the box down from the shelf today and oddly enough, the 2 carbs I thought were 34mm are actually 32mm. Bit of a surprise actually.

So... looks like I have my BMW carbs sitting here already. Looks like I don't have carbs for sale after all. That being said if you decide to go with Mikuni's, buy new or used VM34's (should cost no more than $100 each new) and make sure you get 2.5 slides. The slides are the expensive parts. The rest of the jetting is less expensive, although needle jets are a little pricey.

I'll dig up my current jetting and post it up.

The bike is looking great! They Boyer is a nice kit. Just put another one on my BMW.

Hey Tim. Was wondering if you had posted that "perfect jetting" anywhere for your XS650. I'm looking for a good baseline to start at with my VMs on my stock XS (with pods).

Thanks.
