Pandemic bikes

Well, I haven’t touched this thing in 6 years. Two moves, wife furthering her education and career, and a fourth child! Life happens. The pandemic and subsequent lock down had really motivated me to do something self affirming as many people who have the means to have done. So, the KZ project lurches forward.

I haven’t finished the case covers. I can’t decide on mirror polished, or a satin finish.

Welding isn’t the prettiest. Still learning. JB Weld will be used to smooth out the ugly.

Adjustable shocks from a ‘93(?) Kaw Zephyr. Not pleased with how the springs turned out. I may have them and the collars powder coated.

Top pics include: clutch plates replaced, ZX600A (‘85) front end with kz400front wheel converted to dual discs. Mock up with cut down peg brackets and eBay adjustable rearsets.

Mirror polish looks great but sucks to maintain. Satin is nice too and way less work to keep looking good. Nice hoop. I assume tail in center and turns in the outer slots?

My neighbor across the street is a retired machinist. I couldn’t be more fortunate that he likes me. He makes me stuff like this boss for a pair of swingarm spools

Yes. I had to cut a section out of the center of the hoop and weld it back together because it was just too wide. Now my center slot has been shortened substantially. With my limited welding skills, it was a challenge. I think it will still work fine.

Cold weather caught up to me right as I was starting my seat. Hoping my slow cure hardener will work in my 60 degree basement.

Also working on mounting tach. I found this bracket in my parts bin that will work. Welded the back cover of the tach to the bracket. I think the angle is good. Not sure how much of the “ears” to lop off. I plan to mount a mini speedo to the left of the tach.

Last summer’s blunder! Rear sets in the way of kickstand and kickstart. So, back to the stockers. Glad I didn’t throw them away. I tack welded a gusset on one bracket because I thought it might look cool. It didn’t, so I smacked it off with a hammer.
