Pate Swap Meet Everything is Bigger in Texas

We attended the Pate Swap Meet this past weekend at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend and I wanted to post some of the things we found out there. Pate has been around forever but relocated to Texas Motor Speedway a few years back. This year the Cherokee Antique Motorcycle club was out in force. Here is a teaser. 1916 Indian 8 valve board tracker.

1911 Triumph and 1916 BSA Concourse

Hand-built in 1911 this is The Flying Merkel. It dominated racing of its day with a top speed of 92mph. At the age of 15 Joseph Merkel went to work as a machinist in a locomotive factory. He eventually started his motorcycle company. The first looped frame, sprung front fork, and sprung rear frame are his innovations.
