Permanent Marker Removal ?

In the process of removing the RT faring off of my BMW R100, I notice the PO used permanent marker to make lines on the tank, presumably for lining up the fairing, and assuming he'd never take it off.
So what can I use that won't ruin the paint ? Carb cleaner is a no-no, right ?

I used some acetone to remove some permanent marker from a chrome fender recently but I suspect that acetone is a no-no with clear/paint.

metholated spirit,, denatured alcohol .isopropal alcohol .

Rub some erasable marker on it for a bit then wipe it off. Works for me.

I heard hand sanitizer works

Most of it came off pretty easily, but there are weird think parts I think might be from a paint pen sort of contraption ? Any suggestions ?

Again, dry erase marker. I use it to remove paint pen on magnets at work.

a new sharp razor blade could scrape it off

If it is removable paint marker, the easiest way to get it off without making a mess is to buff it off.

WD 40 works wonders too. Then just de-grease.
