Petcock Problems

Anyone use an aftermarket fuel petcock (like the motion pro one) with a stock Honda fuel tank? How do you go from the threaded fuel adaptor (on the tank) to either a hose barb or a smaller thread size? Basically, my old petcock is leaking like a sieve, and doesn't fit too well with my new Mikuni's either. I'd like to replace it with something a little smaller, that has a 1/4" hose connection, and that doesn't leak my precious fuel all over the place... Any thoughts?

Since nobody seems to have any ideas on this particular issue, I'll share my evenings worth of research findings hoping to help the next guy.

There does not seem to be any straight-forward way to put an aftermarket petcock a la the Motion Pro one, onto a stock CB350 threaded bung. The reason for this, is that the bung is a unique size and thread pattern, (5/8 or ~16mm) for which there does not seem to be an adapter in production that will allow for a 1/4" thread or hose barb attachment to be affixed. Indeed, there are very few (if any) fuel safe 5/8" adapters out there. Because of this, the only really practicable solution for these tanks seems to me to be a weld-in bung. Something that I would do for myself, if I hadn't already painted my tank. In my instance, it has just turned out to be better for me to purchase a NOS petcock from Evilbay. I know it will fit, and I can stop searching the web for adaptors. Maybe in the future I will try to produce a fitting that would allow someone to go from a stock CB350 tank to a 1/4" petcock. Maybe the reason nobody has already, is that there just isn't enough demand. Anyway. Rant complete. Carry on as usual! ::)

Try automotive hot rod type fittings like Earl s Performance. Lots of adapters listed on Sumitt Racing website.

I'm having a similar problem where I am having a tank made but cannot find a bung that will match up with the standard Honda petcock. Any ideas?
