Picked up this lil gem on Saturday..

bad assed, super fast and fully gassed
Well, he's far from little. 82 GS1100G. I actually felt kinda guilty when i left, cos i felt like a kinda stole it. I paid 1200 bucks for it, its got 30k on the till, but has had a complete top end rebuild. And since the bottom end has those AWESOME zook roller bearing crank in it, and it snicks thru the gears nice as you please, im not worried bout it. Shes damn clean, has a couple small dings in the tank, and a touch of rash on one of the pipes, but other than that, this thing started from stone cold with one touch of the button, and half choke. Was completely off choke in less than 3 minutes.

This thing is STOOPID fast for a 540lb shafty. Snapped thru the gears and looked down and i had the needle burried in short order, turning a paltry 5k on the clock and it was not stressing at all. She wont be getting much of a cafe treatment, just some simple bolt on stuff so i can return her to stock if i decide. I plan on doing some modern rearsets, a lil viper fairing as she'll be my long haul bike, so it will be nice to get some of the wind off my chest on the superslab should i have to take it. I was going to do a 4into1 on it, mainly for weight savings, but those stock pipes sound FANTASTIC believe it or not. Nice throaty litre bike gurggle at idle, then a turbine like woosh when you get on it. SO they'll stay till they go bad, then i will swap it out. I will be painting it however. I am not a maroon kinda guy, and he has some dings in the tank that need attention. Lil ones, but i know they are there, so it bugs me. Paint scheme will be Zook Cooley white and blue. Should look pretty good.

Here's a couple snaps,

My buddy Steve loading her up. She would have been ridden home, but i had no tags for it, we were nearly 300 miles from home, and it was raining a bit.

I am in love :) I got my big litre bike for long rides, and the seat feels great. Its an aftermarket from Rick Mayer in Seattle. Its a 450USD seat!! Like i said, i kinda felt bad like i stole it from the guy, but he's got a bunch of classics in his stable, so i dont think he'll miss it much :)

If you ever find another one for that kind of money, LEMME KNOW!!! That IS a real nice bike. I'm turning green.....

Well, thanks guys :) Unfortunately, since ive gotten it tagged on monday, i have only put 150miles on it. Yesterday, after a whopping 68.5 miles, the inner rear hub gear for the wheel gave up the ghost. It sheared the inner gear clip bolts, which started bouncing around inside the gear, and trashed the wheel. Completely shot. No, i wasnt out wheely-ing it before you ask. LOL. Fortunately no damage was done to the final drive pumpkin, just the wheel, and a buddy had a wheel from an 850 (they all use the same drive gear and pumpkins) so after a couple hours of wrenching and some spacer adjustments, his 81 GS850 wheel fit right on my 82 1100G drive. Im back on the road. I have mis-matched rims, but only in spoke patern. Someone who didnt know GS's would likely never see the difference, but i know its there, so of course it bothers me. But, at least she's back on the road. I have also found that my clutch slips a bit in higher RPM ranges. Will have to attend to that soon. Likely the springs, maybe the discs, but i doubt it. This thing, even with a slight slip, is WICKED fast for a shaftie. It weighs 540ish pounds, but you'd never really know it. The steering is a TAD heavier than im used to, so that took some adjustment, but with the 98HP i have been out all afternoon rippin it up as best i can with the clutch being the way it is. Its geared pretty sweet too. Got quite a bit of grunt down low, gets a lil soft thru late 2nd and 3rd, but i was doing the ton only spinning 6k on the tach. Redline is 9. So its got a bit of headroom.

My only mods will be simple. Paint, rearsets, and a lil fairing to keep the wind off me on long rides. This IS what i bought this bike for afterall.

Even with the bad rear wheel and slippy clutch it's a great buy. $1/cc is always a good price to pay, especially for a very clean running bike!

I thought it was a decent deal too. Actually, like i said, i felt a bit like i stole it. Of course the wheel gave me probs, and the clutch is a bit of a problem too, but i can fix all that for less than a couple hundred bucks. Will need some paint at some point, as its got a small ding in the tank, but still she looks pretty damn good. I got antsy yesterday and put the first "mod" on her yesterday. This will be temporary untill i can pick up an actual "Cooley" style one from Airtech.

Very nice bikes. A guy we used to hang out with had a GS1100L,but I like the Gs like yours better and the Es.

for some reason im really in to the front fairings. whered you get that one? was it cheap? ive been thinking maybe i can find a bigger salad bowl with the right shape and try to make one. or atleast make a mold for one out of fiberglass. could be fun.

Its your common Viper fleabay fairing. Very cheap. 45 bucks range. And it shows i must say. That is why this wont be a permanent one for me.

Just a lil update on this, i know its not cafe so i wont bore everyone with a stocker :p

Put new clutch springs in today. I thought this thing was powerfull before. HOLY SHIT! This this WILL pull the wheel with LITTLE effort now. I am madly impressed with that seeing as how it weight 543lbs dry. I knew the clutch was slipping " a little bit" when i bought it, but it must have been more so than i could feel. DAYYYUM this thing is quick. Now its not obviously crotch rocket speed here, but its simply amazing to me how this big heavy thing can move. I swapped out the front springs for some progressives as well, and it handles much better. Little stiff, but i tend to like my bikes that way. Im heading to West Virginia over Memorial Day weekend with a bunch of Gold Wing riding buddies of mine, and i CANT WAIT to get this thing on some twisty mountain roads. Its like a whole new bike all over again. LOVE IT!
