I work at a 3m certified vinyl shop and I would't consider putting vinyl on my bike short of a tank wrap. It looks good, but would look better in paint.
i think it looks great but 2 things. use a brand new sharp razor and trim the radious of the gas cap, so it does not look like it lays over it OR opent he cap cover up and press the vynal behind it and then replace the trim ring... and if you take a hair dryer you can get that ripple out by the seat, get it warm and it will stretch it out
and please man! please the bike is so clean and your plate mount just kills it... got to come up with something cleaner that that bud you have done such a great job on this scoot, while your back there pulling off the plate to relocate it to a cleaner mount, i would say pop off those reflectors on the back fender to smooooooth it out
The upside to vinyl is that the application is much easier (doesnt require alotta of practice and waste of materials and time) and it's more economical . Especially if you buy from me Masking and painting stripes is time consuming and most people I have known have never got it right the first few times.
Vinyl lasts forever (modern vinyl I use are highly UV resistant) it gives professional results ( most old jap bikes ORIGINALLY had vinyl graphics so it can be considered period correct ) and they look great! If you have an unlimited budget , or you are building a white glove show bike (must of us aren't) , or never want to have the option to change your color scheme short of an entirely new very expensive total paint job then by all means blow a few hundred bux or pay a pro even more .
Beautiful execution on your colors !! Top notch
My 2 cents
I get ya Joe. I tried it on the chain guard..didn't like it there. I've been struggling with where to put that. Get any ideas let me know. Thanks on the hairdryer tip, I'll work that out today. I've got flush turn signals I'm replacing those reflectors with, already blacked em out. It's on the to do list, lol.
The vinyl was so easy to work with , and cheap thanks to White orb. I got two dual lines. This is just one laid down. I'm going to put a black pinstripe down the middle to split the line. Next I may see what it looks like with the actual duals. Just playing around with it. Because it was so cheap I can afford to see what a couple different styles look like. He matched the silver to the silver sample I gave him that matched the silver in my bike. Top notch work bro!
There's a million more, and all types of angles in my build thread. There's a bolt to work with on the sing arm there..I keep looking at it, but it hasn't screamed back and told me what to do yet.. Work's with my wife, thought I'd try that first, no luck.
