Piston Rings Install

Been Around the Block
So I got some new rings for my CB360T in today. 3 of them any way and the second ring looks a little different than the one in the shop manual. I'm just wondering which way to install it. I don't want to install it upside down. Here's the diagram in the manual.

And here is what the ring looks like.

And here is the profile that I drew in MS paint.

So does the notch point up like in the profile or should it be pointing down?

Yep. I already put the bottom ring on and it fits perfect. Also I don't think there is a CB360 Four. :D

So I just noticed there is a small "R" on one side of each ring beside the gap. Is this an indication or marker on which way the rings should be put on?

Ok so I just read at http://www.dansmc.com/pistons.htm that the markings on the rings should be intalled facing up, but if anyone knows different please let me know.

According to the chart on the link you provided above that looks like a stepped oil scraper and I agree the mart should go to the top....

That looks like the same set I got for my 360, the R's go up. They changed the style of them, no biggie they still work fine. Least in my baby they do. ;D

Just installed the same rings and I installed the very little, hard to see, mark up on all three rings. It was the only indication I could find.

Cool, I installed them with the R up just waiting for the other set to come in tomorrow. Should have the bike back together and running this weekend! :)

The 'R' means they are 'Regular' (standard sized) rings
They can also be marked 'N' (Normal) or S (Standard)
Oversized will usually tell you, 0.25. 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 which is increase in bore size (in MM)
Always check for markings on top face of ring.
