That looks great, can you make on for a 3/8 arbot bench grinder about and inch wide, I would probably like a couple for that price and can pay by paypal if that works for you, or some other means if neccesary

dude you can make your own, you don't want to pay for someone to cut sand paper, get a roll at home depot and d.i.y, you just need a drill and scissors,
i'll post some pics soon i'm making a new one for lil beast's controls this thursday,

I have never seen that sandpaper with cloth attached on the back, can I find that pretty easily at any home improvement store?

yeah you should be able to, it doesn't need to be exact, it's just sand paper, cloth backed is common, if you cut a lot like 100 your polishing will go real quick,

Yo saucer! Great idea. Once you do the write up, you should post it in the $50 mod thread!

hey thanks, i will, funny thing about ideas, it was lovehertz's idea she got tired of paying for sanding mops for me to polish her bike, she thought she could make it her self for cheap, i just drilled the hole in the sand paper, and used it,our mops lasts longer and we can vary the grit of the sand paper, also we can make larger as well, all for around $3

That's the first time I've heard of a mop sander. :) It's ingenius, and I'll be making one for sure very soon. I've got one side panel that just looks rough, and I'll bet I can solve that problem with this item. Really great work.

For removing factory clear coat try using Easy Off oven cleaner.

The sanding mops are a cool idea, however the more I polish stuff the biggher a fan of flat black rattle can I am.

yeah i can post some pics, but it's just cutting up strips of sand paper, 2 inch longx1 inch wide, stack them you'll need about 40 pieces, drill a hole right in the middle of the stack, then bolt it right on your bench grinder, when it spins, it creates a ball of sand paper, put your parts up to it, works like a charm, best of all no more hand sanding,i use cloth backed sand paper, 600 grit, cuts your polishing time in half, takes off anodized parts like nothing, super flat surface,

Question: What do you use to bolt the sand paper together? Do you just get a bolt the same size hole that you drilled, stick it in there and attach it to the drill/whatever? I want to use this with a power drill.

most home depot type stores should have some kind of polishing kit for a drill. I know i have a ryobi one that uses a 4" polishing wheel, and it's just a threaded bolt that has some locking nuts and washers on it, and then tappers down to the size of a drill chuck.

120 ? boy are you in for a long day of polishing.
Most of the stuff on the 500T polished right up using 400, 1200, 1500 then black brown and white compounds on the buffer.

I had this link saved in my fav http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/buffman.htm

When you go into the store ask where the "Emory Cloth" is. They should have plenty of different grits available.

This guy does polishing for a living, and posted the process.

I bought this stuff from Harbor Freight. Drill, $15. Kit, 25. Kit would do tons of panels. Works great!

Yea I have that same kit from harbor freight. It has a lot of different attachments and I think it will be very useful in those nooks and crannies.

i've tried all kinds of paint strippers, nothing works on the top triple,or master cylinder, or caliper, wire wheel, sanding mop at 600 grit, smooths out all the casting pits, 2 minutes with blk compound on a bench grinder, 5 minutes with red compound, looks like a mirror, the key is to get it super flat before using the compound,i've found also that no matter how good your hand sanding is, a sanding mop is way better, easier on the joints and the surface is way flatter, btw i make my own mops, cost $2,

i used the home made mop today on the Triumph project.. this was the best idea i've heard since sliced bread..

THANK YOU

did anyone post pics on how to put one of these mops together? im still not sure if i completely understand what it looks like and i really would like to make some. thanks
