Powder coat or polish CB450 Build!

Fitted the Carbs up today, a job that i thought would take 1Hr ::) anyway found out that the carb mounts had two gaskets stuck fast and after 1/2Hr they came clean. Took some time mating the mounts to the head and the carbs now the air will flow smooth ;D. The gods were not happy today   I found that the 34 mikuni's won't mount up to the head as the choke leavers hit the valve cover :-[,

had a look on the net and there were two options, one to mod the cover which still left the right leaver on the inside of the carb or to go to cable operated chokes. Denniskirk.com is suppling two cable choke kits and at $8.99 each was a bargain ;D ;D back to the triple trees tomorrow and hopefully the forks next ;D

nice man.. that is looking great!

Hey thanks Joe, it's been awhile since i did any work on the scoot and am now on a roll. Finished the triples last night had to make up a 6mm spacer to allow the original lower weather seal to be retained simple enough but time consuming :) On to the the forks today, need to strip and clean/polish/paint and then the scoot will be rolling ;D ;D

zonda, do you have to use a special pad with your drilled rotors? ive been skeptical to do this in fear that i cannot find ceramic pads for my cb360, if required.

I'll chime in on this.....
no special pads needed, in fact your ceramics ought to LOVE the vented disc. Less dust buildup on the surface, better cooling (!!!)
yeah...they should do great! Remember, sportbikes ALL have vented discs for a reason..

Let you in on a secret ::) Yamaha RD 350 LC disks fit and are already slotted :-X :-X :-X and the better the cooling the better the braking and reduced fade. ceramic does not retain heat so the disks need to be able to dissipate the heat effectively and as Swagger said "they should be great"

Oh don't you just hate that ;D ;D just when you thought that there was nothing else to buy! up pops this, I have not tried this but a UK friend has and it's great ::)

Catch tank made and installed :D but, it's going to come off and be painted the correct shade of orange, the lid polished and some classic water transfers will be applied and cleared ;D ;D. The fuel line will be classic Honda grey with the red strip :D on to tomorrow ::)

Nice idea! I may steal that if I ever end up building the cb360 that I want to make. I always wondered why they ran the overflow tubes down right in front of the back tire (or tyre as the case may be ;) )

That's excellent! I'm definitely going to steal this idea! Where'd you get those rubbers from? ;)

They're just rubber electrical grommets and as they will rarely come in contact with fuel they will be fine ;) you should be able to get them from most rubber/auto stores.

Ok started on the rear guard, if i was in the good old US of A there would be no rear guard ::) but we gotta hav'em :( so the guard must end at 45deg from the vertical axel center (with rider seated). remember that this is just a trial fit, i fixed the guard there as it has two mounting holes already drilled so didn't want to go drilling holes till i was given the ok from the "knowledge" aaah yep, you lot, the Do the Ton brotherhood ;D anyway made the support bracket and it's still in raw state (will be filed and sanded till it shines then painted) the frame rubbers will be retained but will be covered by a cover strip which will act as a washer etc. Don't look to close at the rear wheel assembly it's yet to be fettled ;D ;D

So what do you think ::) ::)

.................update i think i just answered my own Q going to use the number plate as part of the guard, so when fitted it reaches the minimum length

Nice work Rod - what are those shocks? are they eBay ones ???

Just noticed you're running your engine breather into the catch can with the carb breather tubes. Watch you don't get erratic fuelling - if the engine breather pressurises / vaccums the carb bowls it might affect the mixture (maybe, maybe not).

Freakin neat work though - top marks ;)

Thanks mate ;D i've yet to add a breather to the catch can, been thinking about that one and have yet to find a suitable breather that looks the part. I didn't think about the pressure issues hopefully the breather will sort that out ;D ;D

The shocks are "ebay shocks" and work well although they are 3/4 to long and don't have the offset bottom for clevis required for CB's. I have a set of Koni's that will be rebuilt and fitted these are the right length and fit beautifully.

Ah that looks better ;D the tail light/number plate bracket won't stay, i'll have to make up something more in style with the rest of the scoot ;D

Now it's on the 4 P's paint,polish,plate,powder ;D

Ok the rear guard and some other parts are off to the powder coater, the front forks are being rechromed, the shocks (koni) are being rebuilt and and and well thats about it :D So it's on to the tank as i'm going to mod the tank for that "race" look i picked a tank that was in a bad way, just in case i went cold on the idea ::) So the idea is to fit a second petcock this will eliminate the (Fu#ken) cross balance tubes, move the fuel cap to the right, fit a vent line and tank strap. so here's the start. The second rusty tank gave up its petcock fitting with the use of a hole saw

Then on to the cross tubes to be used later

And finally the cap mounts are removed buy stitch drilling around the cap, i like to do it this way if the shape is not uniform and close to parts i want to save. Tomorrow I'll clean it all up and weld in the parts before stripping the lot ready for painting ;D
